Front Seat Active Head Restraint Inspection

Note. If the vehicle has been in a collision, always inspect the active head restraint, even if they appear reusable, by doing the following procedure.

  1. Move the seat-back to the fully upright position. Raise the head restraint to the highest position.
  2. Apply masking tape on the top of the head restraint.
  3. Apply the masking tape (A) on the top of the head restraint (B).
  4. Make the mark (C) at the center point of the head restraint. Use the mark for the measurements in step 3 .
  5. Push the head restraint (A) forward, and measure the horizontal head restraint movement. The head restraint should move more than 50 mm (2.0 in) without resistance. If it is less than 50 mm (2.0 in), or the head restraint does not move smoothly, replace the seat frame assembly: Driver's seat (see «DRIVER'S SEAT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__drivers-seat) ) Passenger's seat (see «PASSENGER'S SEAT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__passengers-seat) )

Do the ODS unit initialization (see ODS UNIT INITIALIZATION ) after front passenger's seat replacement.

Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the body or tear the seat covers. Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components. When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.

  1. Adjust the steering column to the full tilt up position, and to the full telescopic in position. Adjust the seat-back recline to a middle position.
  2. Slide the front seat all the way forward and lower it all the way down.
  3. Carefully pry up on the bottom of the anchor cover (A) at the pry point (B) with the appropriate trim tool to release the hooks (C) and the tab (D), then remove the cover by pulling it upward.
  4. Remove the lower anchor bolt (A).
  5. Remove the seat track end covers (A) from the back of both seat tracks.
  6. Remove the seat mounting bolts from the rear side of the front seat (A).
  7. Slide the front seat all the way back, and remove the seat mounting bolts.
  8. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «USING THE GR8 BATTERY DIAGNOSTIC STATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-v6__using-the-gr8-battery-diagnostic-station) ), then wait at least 3 minutes before removing the seat.
  9. Lift up the front seat, then detach the harness clips (A). Disconnect the side airbag connector (B) and the seat wire harness connector (C). Disconnect the ODS unit harness connector (D) (passenger's seat). Driver's Seat Passenger's Seat
  10. Remove the head restraint.
  11. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the front seat through the front door opening.
  12. Install the seat in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones. Make sure each connector is plugged in properly. Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the seat mounting bolts before reinstallation. Tighten the seat mounting bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown. Slide the seat all the way back and tighten (1) and (2), then slide it forward and tighten (3) and (4). Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque with a torque wrench. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «RECONNECTION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-v6__reconnection) ). Driver's seat Passenger's seat

Front Seat Recline Motor Replacement

Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. The driver's seat is shown; the passenger's seat is similar.

  1. Remove the front seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Remove these items: Seat-back cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT-BACK COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-back-cover-replacement) ) Front seat recline cover (see «FRONT SEAT RECLINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-recline-cover-removalinstallation) )
  3. Release the push nut (A) from the motor side end of the connecting rod (B), gently tap on the motor side of the connecting rod to remove it from the recline motor (C) and both recline adjusters (D).
  4. Remove the mounting bolt, then remove the recline motor (A).
  5. Install the motor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Replace the push nut with a new one. Make sure the push nut is installed correctly. Make sure the recline motor harness is routed properly. Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the mounting bolt before reinstallation. Make sure the motor connector is plugged in properly. Check the front seat recline operation.

Front Seat Lumbar Support Replacement

  1. Remove the driver's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Remove the seat-back cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT-BACK COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-back-cover-replacement) ).
  3. Remove the cable clamp (A) fastening the lumbar support cable (B).
  4. Remove the screws securing the lumbar support actuator (A).
  5. Remove the lumbar support (A). While pulling the lower part of the lumbar support to one side of the seat back frame, release it from the lower wire (B). Release an opposite side of the lumbar support from the other lower wire. Release the upper part of the lumbar support from both upper springs (C).
  6. Release the lower wires (A) from both active head restraint links (B).
  7. Install the lumbar support in the reverse order of removal.

Front Seat Slide Motor Replacement

  1. Remove the front seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Remove the seat cushion cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-cushion-cover-replacement) ).
  3. Remove the flex cable (A) and the cable housing (B). Release the housing from the hooks (C). Disconnect the cable from the worm gear (D) in the inner seat track by pulling out the housing. Disconnect the cable from the slide motor (E). NOTE: Take care not to kink the cable.
  4. Disconnect the slide motor connector (A), and detach the harness clip (B). Remove the bolts securing the slide motor bracket (C) with a TORX T30 bit.
  5. Disconnect the slide motor (A) from the short flex cable (B), and remove the slide motor bracket (C) from the slide gearbox bracket (D).
  6. Pull out the short flex cable (A) from the worm gear (B).
  7. Remove the screws, then remove the slide motor (A) from the slide motor bracket (B).
  8. Install the motor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Apply multipurpose grease to the worm gear areas in both seat tracks. Install the short flex cable to the slide motor before installing the slide motor to the slide motor bracket. Make sure both seat tracks are all the way forward before installing the slide motor bracket on the tracks. Make sure each cable is connected properly. Make sure the motor connector is plugged in properly. Check the front seat slide operation.

Front Up-Down Motor

  1. Remove the driver's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Remove the seat cushion cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-cushion-cover-replacement) ).
  3. Remove the front up-down motor (A) and the front up-down motor bracket (B) as an assembly: Disconnect the motor connector (C). Remove the motor bracket mounting bolts (D) with a TORX T30 bit. Remove the motor bracket mounting bolt (E) with a TORX T40 bit.
  4. Detach the motor connector clip (A). Remove the bolts with a TORX T30 bit, then remove the front up-down motor (B) from the front up-down motor bracket (C).
  5. Install the motor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Apply multipurpose grease to the pivot areas of the up-down adjuster and the motor pinion. When installing the front up-down motor (A), adjust the gear (B) to the motor pinion (C) by slightly rotating the brake (D) with an 8 mm hex wrench. Make sure the motor connector is plugged in properly. Check the front seat up-down operation.

  1. Remove the driver's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Remove these items: Seat-back cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT-BACK COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-back-cover-replacement) ) Seat cushion cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-cushion-cover-replacement) )
  3. Remove the rear brake (A) and the rear brake bracket (B) as an assembly. Remove the brake bracket mounting bolts (C) with a TORX T30 bit. Remove the brake bracket mounting bolt (D) with a TORX T40 bit. Pull back the brake bracket to remove the gear (E) from the brake gear axle.
  4. Remove the gear (A).
  5. Manually lower the seat frame down fully to access the rear bolt securing the rear up-down motor.
  6. Disconnect and detach the motor connector (A). Remove the bolts with a TORX T30 bit, then remove the rear up-down motor (B). Installation
  7. Remove the bolts with a TORX T30 bit, then remove the rear brake (A) from the rear brake bracket (B).
  8. Install the rear up-down motor (A). Apply multipurpose grease to the motor pinion. Fasten the bolts with a TORX T30 bit. Connect the motor connector (B) and fasten the connector clip (C) to the seat frame. NOTE: Make sure the connector is plugged in properly.
  9. Manually raise the seat frame fully upward.
  10. Install the gear (A) facing the seat frame.
  11. Install the rear brake bracket (A) without the rear brake to the seat frame. Lightly fasten all of the mounting bolts (B, C) with a TORX T40 and T30 bits.
  12. Carefully position the seat frame on its rear up-down motor side down.
  13. Align the pinion (A) of the rear brake (B). Engage the gear (C) with the motor pinion by hand, and center it. Check the positions of the sector gear (D) and the cross-shaped hole (E) in the gear. Align the pinion with an 8 mm hex wrench of the rear brake to the sector gear and also fingers (F) around the axle to the cross-shaped hole in the gear.
  14. While holding the gear (A) perpendicular to the axle of the rear brake (B) by hand, install the rear brake onto the rear brake bracket (C). NOTE: If you feel any interference between inside gears, remove the rear brake, and repeat step 13 . If the rear brake seats fully on the rear brake bracket with no interference, go to step 15.
  15. Install the rear brake mounting bolts (A), and tighten them to their specified torque with a TORX T30 bit. Install the rear brake bracket mounting bolts (B, C), then tighten them to their specified torque with a TORX T40 and T30 bit.
  16. Reinstall all of removed parts to the seat frame: Seat-back cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT-BACK COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-back-cover-replacement) ) Seat cushion cover/pad (see «FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-cushion-cover-replacement) )
  17. Reinstall the driver's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  18. Check the front seat up-down operation.

Front Seat Rail Replacement - Driver's Seat

  4. Detach the clips (A, B), then remove the upper rail outer cover (C).
  5. Detach the clip, then remove the upper rail inner cover (A).
  6. Disconnect the slide motor connector (A), then detach the harness clip (B).
  7. Remove the bolts with a TORX T30 bit, then remove the front seat rail (A).
  8. Install the seat rail in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones. Push the clips into place securely. Check the seat slide operation.

Front Seat Frame Replacement

Driver's Seat

Note. If the side airbag has deployed, replace the seat frame and related parts, along with the other parts listed for side airbag deployment (see COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT ).   3. Detach the clips (A, B), then remove the upper rail outer cover (C).
  4. Detach the clip, then remove the upper rail inner cover (A).
  5. Remove the recline inner cover (A) and the center inner cover (B) from the seat frame (C).
  6. Install the seat frame in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones. Push the clips into place securely.

Passenger's Seat

Do the front passenger's weight sensor initialization (see ODS UNIT INITIALIZATION ) after front passenger's seat frame replacement.

Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to tear or damage the seat covers. Passenger's seat: Do not touch the OPDS sensor in the seat-back pad, and keep it away from oil. Oil can corrode the sensor causing it to fail. Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components. The driver's seat is shown; the passenger's seat is similar.

  1. Remove the front seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/seats/#seats-v6__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Driver's seat: Remove the retainer clip (A), then remove the lumbar support handle (B).
  3. From under the seat cushion, release the hooks of the elastic strap (A) from the seat cushion frame springs (B), then pull out the back panel undercover (C).
  4. From under the seat cushion, disconnect and/or detach the connectors: Driver's seat: Side airbag connector (A) Recline motor harness connector (B) Seat-back heater connector (C) Passenger's seat: Side airbag connector (A) Recline motor harness connector (B) Driver's seat Passenger's seat
  5. Detach the harness clips (D), and remove the harness clamps (E).
  6. Remove the back panel (A). Remove the screws. Release the hooks (B) by pulling back the bottom of the back panel. Gently pull down the back panel to release the hooks (C) from the seat-back frame.
  7. Pull the side airbag harness (A), and the recline motor harness (B) out through the loop (C). Pull the seat-back heater harness (D) out through the loop (E) (driver's seat). Release the hooks (F), then detach the clips. Release the hook strip (G), and pull the bottom of the seat-back cover (H) back, then pull the harnesses out through the harness holes (I).   8. Release the hook strips (A), then loosen the seat-back cover (B).
  9. Remove the nut, then release the bracket (A) of airbag attachment wire C from the seat-back frame (B).
  10. Release airbag attachment wire A and airbag attachment wire B from the seat-back frame (C).
  11. Passenger's seat: Remove the ODS unit cover (A). Turn over the seat-back cover (B) and the pad (C) as needed. Release the cover from the lower hooks (D). Pull the cover upward to release it from the upper hook (E).
  12. Passenger's seat: Disconnect the ODS unit harness connector (F) and the OPDS sensor connectors (G).
  13. Passenger's seat: Detach the harness clips (A) fastening the OPDS sensor harnesses (B), and release the wire tie (C).
  14. Passenger's seat: Detach the harness clip (A). Pull the ODS unit harness (B) in through a hole in the seat frame, and pull it out through the harness hole (C) in the seat-back cover (D).
  15. Pinch the tabs on the ends of the head restraint guides (A), and remove them from the seat-back.
  16. Remove the seat-back cover/pad (A) from the seat-back frame (B).
  17. Pull back the edge of the seat-back cover all the way around, and release the upholstery rings (A), then remove the seat-back cover (B).
  18. Remove airbag attachment wire B from the outside reinforcing cloths (D). Pull airbag attachment wire A out through the loops (E) of the inside reinforcing cloths (F) and through loop (G) of airbag attachment wire C. Remove airbag attachment wires A and C.
  19. Install the seat-back cover in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: To prevent wrinkles when installing the seat-back cover, make sure the material is stretched evenly over the pad before securing the upholstery rings, the hooks, and the hook strips. Before installing the seat-back cover, make sure airbag attachment wires A, B, and C are installed in the reinforcing cloths (D) correctly, and that wire A and wire C are securely assembled. Reinstall airbag attachment wires A, B, and the bracket (E) of airbag attachment wire C to the seat-back frame as shown. Replace all of the upholstery rings (F) fastening the seat-back cover (G) to the pad wires (H) with new ones using commercially available upholstery ring pliers (I). Use only original Acura replacement seat-back covers. Make sure the side airbag harness and the seat wire harness are routed properly.

  5. Install the recline cover in the reverse order of removal, and push the clips, the hooks, and the tabs into place securely.

  3. From under the seat cushion, release the hooks on the elastic straps (A) for the seat cushion frame springs (B), then pull out the back panel undercover (C).
  4. From under the seat cushion, disconnect and/or detach the connectors: Driver's seat: Side airbag connector (A) Recline motor harness connector (B) Seat-back heater connector (C) Seat cushion heater connector (D) Passenger's seat: Side airbag connector (A) Recline motor harness connector (B) Seat cushion heater connector (D) Driver's seat Passenger's seat
  5. Detach the harness clips (E), and remove the harness clamps (F).
  6. Passenger's seat: Remove the back panel (A). Remove the screws. Release the hooks (B) by pulling back the bottom of the back panel. Gently pull down the back panel to release the hooks (C) from the seat-back frame.
  7. Passenger's seat; Release the hooks (A), then detach the clips from under the seat-back cover (B). Release the hook strips (C), then pull the bottom of the seat-back cover back.
  8. Passenger's seat: Remove the ODS unit cover (A). Turn over the seat-back cover (B) and the pad (C) as needed. Release the cover from the lower hooks (D). Pull the cover upward to release it from the upper hook (E).
  9. Passenger's seat: Disconnect the ODS unit harness connector (F).
  10. Passenger's seat: Detach the harness clip (A), then pull the ODS unit harness (B) in through a hole in the seat frame, and pull it out through the harness hole (C) in the seat-back cover (D).
  11. Pull the side airbag harness (A) and the recline motor harness (B) on either of the seats, the seat-back heater harness (C) on the driver's seat, and the ODS unit harness (D) on the passenger's seat out through the loops (E). Driver's seat Passenger's seat
  12. Release the hook strips (A) from both sides of the seat cushion frame.
  13. Driver's seat: Disconnect the power seat control unit connectors (A), and remove the screws, then remove the power seat control unit (B).
  14. Release the hook strips (A) from under the seat cushion.
  15. Remove the seat cushion cover/pad (A) from the seat frame (B).
  16. Release the upholstery rings (A) fastening the seat cushion cover (B) and the undercover (C) on the seat cushion pad.
  17. Pull back the edge of the seat cushion coverall the way around, and release the upholstery rings (A), then remove the seat cushion cover (B).
  18. Install the cover in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: To prevent wrinkles when installing the seat cushion cover, make sure the material is stretched evenly over the pad before securing the upholstery rings and hook strips. Replace all of the upholstery rings (A) fastening the seat cushion cover (B) to the pad wire (C) with new ones using commercially available upholstery ring pliers (D). If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

  2. Remove the bolt, then remove the center pivot bracket (A).
  3. If necessary, remove the bushing (B).
  4. Remove the left seat-back (A). Fold down the left seat-back. Pull the center seat belt (B) out through the slit (C) in the seat belt guide (D). Release the Velcro fastener (E), and pull back the seat-back cover (F), then remove the bolt. Release the hooks (G) of the pivot bracket (H).
  5. Extend the center seat belt (A) to remove the left seat-back (B), then release the pivot shaft (C) from the center pivot bracket (D).
  6. If necessary, remove the bushing (A) from the center pivot bracket (B).
  7. If necessary, release the hook (A) and remove the center pivot cover (B) from the center pivot bracket (C).
  8. Remove the seat side bolster.
  9. Detach the harness clip (A), and remove the bolt, then remove the pivot bracket (B).
  10. Install the seat-back in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones. Push the clip and the hooks into place securely. Guide the center seat belt over the front of the seat-back as you install the seat-back. Make sure there are no twists or kinks in the center seat belt before attaching the rear seat-back.

  7. Install the seat cushion (A) in the reverse order of removal. When installing the seat cushion, first install the seat belt buckles (B) into the holes (C). Slip the center seat belt buckle (D) and the center seat belt (E) through the slits (F) in the seat cushion.
