Tailgate Adjustment

Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

Scheme 355: Tailgate Adjustment
  1. With power tailgate: Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl) ), then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work. NOTE: Open the tailgate by using the emergency lever while adjusting the tailgate: Without power tailgate (see «WITHOUT POWER TAILGATE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/communication-devices/#openers-4-cyl__without-power-tailgate) ) With power tailgate (see «WITH POWER TAILGATE»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/communication-devices/#openers-4-cyl__with-power-tailgate) )
  2. Remove these items: Tailgate weatherstrip (see «TAILGATE WEATHERSTRIP REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#tailgate-4-cyl) ) Quarter pillar trims, both sides (see «QUARTER PILLAR TRIM»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-4-cyl__quarter-pillar-trim) ) Tailgate support struts, both sides (see «TAILGATE SUPPORT STRUT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#tailgate-4-cyl__tailgate-support-strut-replacement) )
  3. Slightly loosen each nut and screw.
  4. Adjust the tailgate (A) alignment in the following sequence: Adjust the tailgate hinges (B) right and left, as well as forward and rearward, by using the elongated holes in the hinges. Turn the tailgate edge cushions (C), in or out as necessary, to make the tailgate fit flush with the body at the side edges. Adjust the fit between the tailgate and tailgate opening by moving the striker (D), and pull the striker cap (E) up, then adjust the striker right or left until it is centered in the tailgate latch (F).
  5. Tighten each nut and screw securely.
  6. Check that the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
  7. Reinstall the support struts securely.
  8. Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting bolts and around the hinges, and let the paint dry.
  9. Reinstall all of the removed parts.
  10. With power tailgate: Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/body-electrical/#battery-4-cyl__battery-removal-and-installation) ).

Tailgate Support Strut Replacement

Note. Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the hood support strut. Use eye protection when prying the support strut clips. When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.

  1. Pry the support strut clips (A) from each end of the tailgate support strut (B), then release the support strut from the pivot bolt (C) and the pivot bracket (D). If necessary, remove the pivot bolt from the tailgate. NOTE: Do not remove the clips from the support strut.
  2. Remove the bolts, then remove the pivot bracket (A).
  3. Reinstall the pivot bracket.
  4. Set the clips (A) on the original position, then reattach the tailgate support strut (B) on the pivot bolt (C) and the pivot bracket (D) by pushing the support strut onto the pivot.

Scheme 359: Tailgate Weatherstrip Replacement

  1. At the bottom center of the tailgate opening, pull the right end of the tailgate weatherstrip (A) to disconnect the joint (B), and pull it outward from the pad (C) in the other side end. Remove whole of the weatherstrip by pulling out on it.
  2. Locate the painted alignment mark (A) on the tailgate weatherstrip (B). Align the painted mark with the alignment tab in the center of the tailgate opening, and install the weatherstrip. NOTE: Make sure the weatherstrip is seated completely and facing in the direction shown. Make sure there are no wrinkles in the weatherstrip.
  3. At the bottom center of the tailgate opening, first attach the left end of the weatherstrip to the body. Connect the right end of the weatherstrip to the pad (C) in the other side end, then push the right end onto the joint (D). NOTE: Make sure that the mark (E) (white) on the weatherstrip is covered by the lip (F) of the weatherstrip.
  4. Check for water leaks (see step 9 on «DOOR GLASS ADJUSTMENT»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/exterior-body-panels/#doors-4-cyl__door-glass-adjustment) ).

Tailgate Dynamic Damper Replacement

Note. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the tailgate.

Scheme 361: Tailgate Dynamic Damper Replacement
  1. Remove the tailgate lower trim panel (see «TAILGATE TRIM PANEL»(/acura/tsx/ii-2008-2014/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-4-cyl__tailgate-trim-panel) ).
  2. Remove the bolts (A), then remove the tailgate dynamic damper (B).
  3. Install the damper in the reverse order of removal.
