Engine mount, rear, replacing

Scheme 320

Remove

1. the screw for the engine stabilizer brace at the control arm on the engine
2. the screws at the engine stabilizer brace mountings at the suspension turrets
3. the engine stabilizer brace
4. the nuts for the front exhaust pipe connection to the turbocharger (TC). Carefully pull the exhaust pipe away from the turbocharger (TC) and hang it on the cowl panel. NOTE: The metal hose for the front exhaust pipe is easy to damage if it is twisted. Handle the exhaust hose with care to avoid leakage later.
5. the vacuum hose for the rear engine pad
6. the upper nut for the rear engine pad.

Scheme 321

Raise the car.

Remove

1. the splash guard under the engine
2. the lower screw for the engine pad.

Scheme 322

Remove the screw and nut where the lower torque rod is secured to the bracket on the transmission.

Position a mobile jack and universal plate 9995972 under the transmission where the flywheel cover and transmission meet.

Check that the plate does not catch in the sub-frame.

Carefully lift up the engine so that the engine pad can be replaced.

Install the new engine pad.

Install a new screw in the lower mounting for the engine pad. Do not tighten yet .

Carefully lower the engine.

Note. Ensure that the guide pin for the engine pad locates correctly.

Remove the mobile jack.

Finishing

Install a new screw and nut on the lower torque rod. Tighten to 35 Nm . Angle-tighten 90° . Use bevel protractor 9512050 .

Tighten the lower engine pad screw. Tighten to 50 Nm .

Install the splash guard under the engine. Tighten to 25 Nm .

Scheme 323

Lower the car

Install

1. a new nut in the upper mounting for the engine pad. Tighten to 50 Nm
2. the vacuum hose on the engine pad
3. the front exhaust pipe to the turbocharger (TC). Use new nuts and a new gasket . Lubricate the threads and mating surfaces. Use copper paste, P/N 1161408-8 . Tighten to 45 Nm
4. the engine stabilizer brace between the suspension turrets. Tighten the four screws. Tighten to 50 Nm
5. the screw for the engine stabilizer brace mounting at the torque control arm on the engine. Tighten to 80 Nm .

Remove the hose clip for the fresh air hose

Remove

1. the fresh air intake hose
2. the hose for the crankcase ventilation
3. the air filter housing by removing it from the rubber mountings and pulling straight up.

2. the 3 x screws for the lower section of the battery box
3. the connector for the sensor in the lower section.

Installing the engine pad

Install

1. the engine pad
2. the screw (3) for the engine pad. Tighten. See «Tightening torque»(ref-406890-S16787585602011070100000)
3. the ventilation hose mounting for the transmission
4. the bracket
5. the 4 x nuts (1) for the bracket. Tighten. See: «Tightening torque»(ref-406890-S16787585602011070100000)
6. the 2 x M8 screws (1).

Removing the lifting tool

Remove the lifting tool: 9997103 and: 9995186

Installing the battery box

Install

1. the connector for the sensor in the lower section
2. the 3 x M6 screws for the lower section of the battery box
3. the battery as shown: «Battery»(ref-406980-S28594705262011070100000) .

Installing the air cleaner (ACL) housing

Install

1. the air cleaner (ACL) housing
2. the hose from the crankcase ventilation
3. the fresh air intake hose and hose clip.

Preparation

Note. Do not empty the air conditioning (A/C system). When lowering the engine and sub-frame, remove the A/C compressor from the engine and hang it from a hook on the car.

Scheme 326

Remove the battery cables. First read Battery, disconnecting .

Set the wheels to the straight forward position and lock the steering wheel lock.

Remove the engine cover.

Remove the torque rod according to Replacing the torque rod .

Remove the plus cable coming from the starter motor at the connection on the left wheel housing tower.

Turn the belt tensioner counter-clockwise with an open wrench.

Remove the auxiliary unit belt.

Raise the car and remove both front wheels.

Remove the drive shaft screw on the right and left side.

Use a screwdriver as counterhold in the brake disc.

Note. Ensure that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.

Remove

1. the front wheels
2. the tie rod ends from the steering arms. Use puller «9995259»(ref-403953-S09506488922011061000000) .

On one side, measure the length of the tie rod in relation to the steering gear housing. Note the measurement.

Removing the screw and nut for the soundproofing (applies to both sides). Move the soundproofing to one side. Push part of the fender liner to one side. Secure the fender liner in the open position.

Raise the car.

Remove the screw for the joint between the steering gear and the steering shaft.

Press the joint up from the steering shaft.

Remove the nuts from the ball joints. Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the ball joint boot is not damaged.

Scheme 335

Remove the anti-roll bar links from the anti-roll bar. Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the ball joint gaiter is not damaged.

Drain the coolant from the engine and the radiator. See Draining and filling coolant .

Note. The protective covers under the radiator and engine must not be reinstalled after the coolant has been drained.

Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator.

Only automatic transmission

Remove the lower oil cooler hose from the left side of the radiator.

Drain the oil from the radiator into a container.

Loosen the screw for the cable conduit.

Cars with air conditioning (A/C) only

Note. Do not empty the air conditioning (A/C) system.

Remove the four screws for the A/C compressor from the engine.

Remove the electric connection to the compressor.

Note. Hang the A/C compressor in a wire when the engine is being lowered.

Remove the connector from the receiver drier for the A/C. This is positioned on the right-hand side of the radiator.

Remove the fuel line from the engine block heater and at the joint from the tank with tool 9995666 .

Drain any fuel from the line into a container.

Remove the engine block heater from the three sub-frame screws and from the connector above the engine block heater.

Hang up the engine block heater in a hook in the sub-frame.

The engine block heater is lowered together with the engine.

Remove

1. the inlet hose between the air cleaner and the front panel
2. the connector from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the turbocharger (TC) control valve
3. the vacuum valve for the engine pads
4. the hose from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor to the turbocharger (TC). Warm the hose connector using a hot-air gun. This will make removal easier
5. the air cleaner (ACL) housing.

Remove the ground lead from under the air cleaner (ACL) housing.

Part the big connector on the air filter bracket.

Loosen the vacuum line along the air filter bracket and part it at the joint.

Remove the charge-air hose from the intercooler and from the inlet pipe.

Warm the charge air pipe connector using a hot-air gun. This will make removal easier.

Remove

1. the hoses from the expansion tank on the engine
2. fuel lines from the connection on the engine.
3. boost pressure sensor hose from the side of the inlet pipe.
4. the upper radiator hose.

Scheme 344

Remove the engine coolant hose from the cowl panel.

Turn the front section of the terminal to the left while pulling the hose backward.

Note. Drain any excess coolant into a container.

Remove the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger (TC) and hang the pipe against the cowl panel.

Manual transmissions

Remove the transmission cable from the transmission and the clutch connection. See Transmission, removing .

Hang up the cable(s) in the car so that they do not go with the engine when it is lowered.

Automatic transmission

Remove the gear cable from the automatic transmission according to Gearbox, removing .

Hang the cable in the car so that it does not follow with the engine when the engine is lowered

Remove the electric cooling fan according to Replacing the engine cooling fan (FC) .

Remove both control modules and the cabling from the control module box according to Transmission control module (TCM), replacing .

Remove the cabling from the engine in the control module box Central electrical unit, engine compartment, replacing .

Remove the ground cable in the body on the right wheel housing edge.

Note. Place the engine wiring and engine coolant hoses over the engine when it is being lowered.

Position a lifting table under the sub-frame.

Remove the screws holding the sub-frame brackets to the bodywork on both sides.

Remove the four sub-frame screws.

Carefully lower the sub-frame approximately 15 cm. At the same time, check that the steering shaft is free of the steering gear.

Fold out the spring struts on the left and right-hand sides and release them at the same time from the drive shafts and control arms.

Place a spacer between the spring struts and the wheel arch to keep the spring struts bent outwards.

Cars with air conditioning (A/C) only

Lower the sub-frame so that the A/C compressor can be removed from the engine.

Hang the A/C compressor up with a piece of wire.

Lower the engine and transmission unit carefully.

Filling With Coolant

Fill with new coolant. The cooling system holds approximately 12 liters.

Set the heater control to maximum.

Run the engine to operating temperature and top up the coolant to the correct level in the expansion tank.

Install the cover on the expansion tank and check for leaks.

Exhaust temperature sensor, replacing

Detach the cable from the clip.

Unplug the connector to the temperature sensor.

Remove the temperature sensor.

Installing the front temperature sensor

Install

1. the temperature sensor. Tighten, see
2. the cable harness in the clip.

Connect the connector.

Detach the cable harness from the clip.

Unplug the connector to the temperature sensor.

Remove the rear exhaust temperature sensor.

Installing the rear exhaust temperature sensor

Install

1. the rear exhaust temperature sensor. Tighten, see
2. the cable harness in the clip.

Connect the connector.
