Centari painting system for plastic is a very simple, easy-to-use system to paint most normal hard, semi-hard and soft plastic components on cars.

Always apply 800R Centari Flexible Sealer. Allow to evaporate for 5 minutes between layers. Wait a further 15 minutes before applying further layers.

Paint color codes

Please refer to the respective car model spare parts catalogue for the relevant paint color codes.

Manufacturing coding

From and including the 1977 year models, the paint codes are numbered according to their introduction in production, i.e. 1st = 1st supplier, 2nd = 2nd supplier etc.

From and including the 1978 year models, the code number was changed so that each supplier received a number according to the following

1 = BASF (Glasurit)

2 = Herberts

3 = Beckers

4 = IDAC/ICI

5 = Sikkens (AKZO)

E.g. E.g. Blue color, code 139-2. 2nd denotes Herberts as the supplier.

Additional supplier numbers are used for test paint systems from various paint manufacturers.

This means that 1977 year colors which are found on 1978 and later cars have changed their serial number in certain cases.

All paints are available from Volvo Car Corporation Aftersales.

Extra number in the color code

The color codes were changed from December 1988.

Solvent based and water based colors are now being used on the cars. In order to identify these more easily, an extra number has been added, which denotes whether the color is solvent or water based or is of another quality.

Repair materials

Volvo's original colors should be used if possible, but as the situation may occur that the recommended paint materials are not available from stock, we have produced a list of the stock carried by the major paint producers for paintwork repairs to Volvo cars.

The list contains the producers' own recommendations and the products below are not guaranteed or stocked by Volvo.

The respective producer should be contacted if more information on any of the products is required.

Note. Always follow the producers' recommendations and do not mix the different producers' systems.

The increased demands for color range, water-based and pearl, worker protection, reduced air pollution and clearer directions on the labels from the paint suppliers, has led to Volvo Car Corporation changing their previous policy regarding the original color concept. We have also discovered that the paint mixers in the market place are of a better quality than previously. Therefore, Volvo accepts these for painting cars during the guarantee period.

It is thought important that each paint supplier is individually responsible for the color matching and the quality, as well as for any complaints.
