P0012: RETARDED CAMSHAFT TIMING
- If the difference between the target and actual camshaft timing is greater than the specified value, the ECM operates the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly for 10 seconds by applying and releasing oil pressure. Then, the ECM monitors the camshaft timing change for 10 seconds.

- Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or more [B].

Scheme 165: CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
- Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode). Refer to «INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE»(ref-551389-S33941292062013051500000) .
- Start the engine and idle it for 5 minutes or more [B].
- With the vehicle stationary, depress the accelerator pedal and maintain an engine speed of 2500 RPM for 1 minute [C]. HINT: During charging control, the engine speed is set at idle. Therefore, the engine speed does not increase when depressing the accelerator pedal. In this case, perform steps [C] and [D] after charging control has completed.
- Idle the engine for 5 minutes or more [D].
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [E].
- Read the pending DTCs. HINT: If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P0037, P0038, P0141 or P102D.
- Check the DTC judgment result. - PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE EGR STEP POSITION) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode). Refer to «INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE»(ref-551389-S33941292062013051500000) . Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or more. HINT: The A/C switch and all accessory switches should be off. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the EGR Step Position / Throttle Idle Position and MAP. Check that the Throttle Idle Position in ON and check the engine idling condition and MAP values in the Data List while performing the Active Test. FAIL-SAFE
When any of these DTCs, as well as other DTCs relating to electronic throttle control system malfunctions, are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the ECM cuts the current to the throttle actuator, and the throttle valve is returned to a 5.5° throttle angle by the return spring. The ECM stops the engine and the vehicle can be driven using solely the hybrid system. If the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and gently, the vehicle can be driven slowly.
Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected, and the power switch is then turned off.

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the power switch on (IG).
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Record the DTC(s) and freeze frame data.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
- Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode). Refer to «INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE»(ref-551389-S33941292062013051500000) .
- Using the Techstream, switch the ECM from normal mode to check mode. Refer to «CHECK MODE PROCEDURE»(ref-551395-S23455365402013051500000) .
- Read the misfire counts of each cylinder, Cylinder #1 Misfire Count to Cylinder #4 Misfire Count, with the engine idling. If any misfire count is displayed, skip the following confirmation driving pattern.
- Drive the vehicle so that the vehicle conditions displayed in Misfire RPM and Misfire Load of the Data List are the same as the freeze frame data. Perform this step several times. HINT: In order to store misfire DTCs, it is necessary to operate the vehicle for the period of time shown in the table below, using the Misfire RPM and Misfire Load in the Data List. Engine Speed Duration Idling 4 minutes and 30 seconds or more 1000 4 minutes and 30 seconds or more 2000 2 minutes and 30 seconds or more 3000 1 minute and 30 seconds or more
- Check whether misfires have occurred by checking DTCs and freeze frame data. HINT: Do not turn the power switch off until the stored DTC(s) and freeze frame data have been recorded. When the ECM returns to normal mode (default), the stored DTC(s), freeze frame data and other data will be cleared.
- Record the DTC(s), freeze frame data and misfire counts.
- Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).

- Check if any DTCs (pending DTCs) are stored. HINT: If the monitor item does not change to Complete, and no pending DTCs are stored, extend the driving time.

HINT: Change the fuel injection volume within the range of - 12% to +12%. The injection volume can be changed in fine gradations. Each sensor reacts in accordance with increases and decreases in the fuel injection volume. The air fuel ratio sensor has an output delay of a few seconds and the heated oxygen sensor has a maximum output delay of approximately 20 seconds. If the sensor output voltage does not change (almost no reaction) while performing the Active Test, the sensor may be malfunctioning.
