CAUTION

  1. Supplemental Restraint System "Airbag"

The airbag system wiring harness is routed near the TCM.

CAUTIONAll the airbag system wiring harnesses and connectors are colored yellow. Do not use an electric test equipment to check these circuits. Be careful not to damage the airbag system wiring harness when performing diagnostics or servicing the TCM. Measurement

When measuring the voltage and resistance of the ECM, TCM or each sensor, use a tapered pin with a diameter of less than 0.64 mm (0.025 in) in order to avoid poor contact. Do not insert a pin of more than 0.65 mm (0.026 in) diameter.

BATTERY

Measure the battery voltage and specific gravity of the electrolyte.

Standard voltage

12 V or more

Specific gravity

1.260 or more

TRANSMISSION GROUND

Make sure that the ground terminal bolt is tightened securely.

Tightening torque

13 N.m (1.3 kgf-m, 9.4 ft-lb)

SUPPORT DATA

Note. For details concerning the operation procedure, refer to the «help on PC application for Subaru Select Monitor».

CLEAR MEMORY MODE

  1. Check that the select lever is in "P" range.
  2. On the «Main Menu», select {Each System Check}.
  3. On the «System Selection Menu», select {Transmission}.
  4. After transmission type information pops up, select [OK].
  5. On the «Transmission Diagnosis», select {Clear Memory}.
  6. When the "Done. Turn ignition switch to OFF" pops up, select [OK].
  7. Turn Subaru Select Monitor and ignition switch to OFF. To turn the ignition switch to ON again, wait for 10 seconds or more.

Note. To clear the previous DTC, use {Clear Memory}, and to clear the learned value, use {Clear Memory 2}. If {Clear Memory 2} is selected and performed, DTC are not cleared. For details concerning the operation procedure, refer to the «help on PC application for Subaru Select Monitor».

WARNINGObserve the traffic law when driving on public roads.
  1. Shift the select lever to "D" range, and then drive the vehicle with changing the gear from 1st to 5th.
  2. When driving the vehicle at 5th speed of "D" range, set the gear to manual mode and drive the vehicle by downshifting using "-" of the select lever from 5th --> 4th, 4th --> 3rd, 3rd --> 2nd, and 2nd --> 1st. NOTE: At shifting down, drive the vehicle at least 10 seconds in each speed.
  3. Shift the select lever to "R" range and drive the vehicle for 2 seconds or more.

PREPARATION FOR LEARNING CONTROL

  1. Shift the select lever to "P" range, and turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF).
  2. Read DTC using Subaru Select Monitor to confirm no DTC is detected. < Ref. to «READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)»(ref-306927-S35074868652008122600000) , OPERATION, Subaru Select Monitor. >
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Drive the vehicle until ATF oil temperature displayed by the current data read operation on Subaru Select Monitor reaches 60 - 90°C (140 - 194°F). < Ref. to «READ CURRENT DATA»(ref-306927-S41495049622008122600000) , OPERATION, Subaru Select Monitor. >
  5. Lift up the vehicle. CAUTION: When performing learning control, be sure to keep the lower edge of the tires 30 cm or more above the ground as vehicle vibrates during the work.
  6. Shift the select lever to "P" range, and turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  7. Fully apply the parking brake. CAUTION: When performing the transfer clutch learning, fully apply the parking brake to avoid tires from rotating.

SIMPLE LEARNING

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF).
  2. With the brake pedal depressed, shift the select lever to "R" range.
  3. Perform the {Clear Memory 2}. < Ref. to «CLEAR MEMORY MODE»(ref-306927-S29988651132008122600000) , OPERATION, Subaru Select Monitor. >
  4. Turn the ignition switch to ACC without depressing the brake pedal.
  5. Depress and hold the brake pedal with left foot until step 17 ).
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  7. Select {Normal sampling} on the «Current Data Display & Save» screen of Subaru Select Monitor, and confirm that ATF oil temperature reaches 60 - 90°C (140 - 194°F).
  8. Shift the select lever to the "P" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
  9. Shift the select lever to the "R" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
  10. Shift the select lever to the "N" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
  11. Shift the select lever to the "D" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.

  13. Slowly depress the accelerator pedal to full throttle.
  14. Slowly release the accelerator pedal to full close.
  15. Start the engine, and idle it.
  16. Shift the select lever to "D" range.
  17. Transmission simple learning starts. AT OIL TEMP light in the combination meter illuminates. (Parking brake mark is displayed on the multi-information display, but it is normal.) If AT OIL TEMP light does not illuminate, repeat the simple learning from step 1 ) again.
  18. Confirm that the AT OIL TEMP light in the combination meter illuminates and that buzzer sounds at 2 Hz, and then release the brake pedal. (After the brake pedal is released, the buzzer will continue to sound for a while and the AT OIL TEMP light will blink.)
  19. Confirm that the AT OIL TEMP light in the combination meter illuminates and that buzzer sounds at 2 Hz, and then depress the brake pedal with left foot. (After the brake pedal is depressed, the buzzer will continue to sound for a while and the AT OIL TEMP light will blink.)
  20. Make sure that buzzer sounds at 2 Hz, and shift the select lever to "R" range.
  21. The simple learning completes normally if the AT OIL TEMP light in the combination meter goes off. If the blinking of the AT OIL TEMP light changes from 2 Hz to 4 Hz, repeat the simple learning from step 1 ) again.
  22. Shift the select lever to "P" range, turn the ignition switch to OFF, and then leave it for 30 minutes or more.
  23. Lower the vehicle.

DRIVING LEARNING

  1. Start the engine.
