REMOVAL
- Remove the select lever. See «REMOVAL»(ref-175339-S38788341662005042000000) .
- Remove AT shift lock solenoid "P" position switch.
INSTALLATION
- Install AT shift lock solenoid and "P" position switch.
- Install the select lever. See «INSTALLATION»(ref-175339-S10905218082005042000000) .

- Disconnect battery ground terminal. (Scheme 40): Disconnecting Battery Ground Terminal
- Remove the lower cover and then disconnect connector. (Scheme 41): Removing The Lower Cover
- Disconnect connector from AT shift lock control module.
- Remove the AT shift lock control module.
Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Remove gear shift knob.

- Remove rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Remove heat shield cover. (Scheme 43): Removing Heat Shield Cover
- Remove stay from transmission bracket. (Scheme 44): Removing Stay From Transmission Bracket
- Remove rod from joint. (Scheme 45): Removing Rod From Joint
- Remove cushion rubber from body. (Scheme 46): Removing Cushion Rubber From Body
- Remove joint and then extract straight pin. (Scheme 47): Removing Joint & Extracting Straight Pin
- Remove gear shift lever. (Scheme 48): Removing Gear Shift Lever

- Install the joint to the transmission and secure with the straight pin.
- Insert gear shift lever from room side. NOTE: After inserting rod and stay, temporarily put them onto transmission mount. (Scheme 49): Inserting Gear Shift Lever
- Mount cushion rubber on the body. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb) (Scheme 50): Mounting Cushion Rubber On The Body
- Connect rod to the joint. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb) (Scheme 51): Connecting Rod To The Joint
- Connect stay to transmission bracket. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb) (Scheme 52): Connecting Stay To Transmission Bracket
- Install heat shield cover. (Scheme 53): Installing Heat Shield Cover

- Disassemble locking wire. (Scheme 54): Disassembling Locking Wire
- Remove rod from gear shift lever. (Scheme 55): Removing Rod From Gear Shift Lever
- Remove snap ring from bush D, then disconnect stay. (Scheme 56): Removing Snap Ring From Bush D & Disconnecting Stay
- Remove boot from gear shift lever.
- Remove bush and cushion rubber from stay. (Scheme 57): Removing Bush & Cushion Rubber From Stay
- Remove O-ring, then disconnect bush D. (Scheme 58): Removing O-Ring & Disconnecting Bush D
- Draw out straight pin, then remove bush C from gear shift lever. (Scheme 59): Drawing Out Straight Pin & Removing Bush C From Gear Shift Lever

- Clean all parts before assembly.
- Mount the bush B and cushion rubber on the stay. (Scheme 60): Mounting Bush B & Cushion Rubber On The Stay
- Mount each part; boot, O-ring, bush A, spacer, bush B, bush D and straight pin on the gear shift lever. CAUTION: Always use new O-rings. Apply grease [DNIGTIGHT LYW No. 2 or equivalent] to the inner and side surfaces of the bush when installing the spacer. (Scheme 61): Installing The Spacer
- Insert the gear shift lever into the boot hole.
- Install snap ring and stay to the bush D. (Scheme 62): Installing Snap Ring And Stay To The Bush D
- Tighten with locking wire to the extent that the boot will not come off. CAUTION: Always use new locking wire. (Scheme 63): Tightening With Locking Wire
- Insert the rod into the boot hole.
- Connect rod to gear shift lever. Tightening torque: 11.8 N.m (1.2 kgf-m, 8.7 ft-lb) (Scheme 64): Connecting Rod To Gear Shift Lever
- Check the swing torque of the rod in relation to the gear shift lever. If the torque exceeds the specification, replace bushing or retighten nuts. Rocking torque: 0.7 N.m (0.07 kgf-m, 0.5 ft-lb) or less (Scheme 65): Checking The Swing Torque
- Check that there is no excessive play and that parts move smoothly.

- Check each part (bush A, cushion rubber, spacer, boot, stay and rod, etc.) for deformation, damage and wear. Repair or replace any defective part. Determine defective parts by comparing with new parts. (Scheme 66): Checking Shift Linkage Components
- Check the swing torque of the rod in relation of the gear shift lever. If the torque exceeds the specification, replace bushing or retighten nuts. Rocking torque: 0.7 N.m (0.07 kgf-m, 0.5 ft-lb) or less (Scheme 67): Check The Swing Torque
