INSPECTION
- Inspect removed parts by comparing with new ones for deformation, damage and wear. Correct or replace if defective.
- Confirm the following parts for operating condition before assembly. Moving condition of the selector lever upper... it should move smoothly.

- Prior to removal, set lever to "N" position.
- Remove under cover.
- Remove rear exhaust pipe and muffler. CAUTION: When removing exhaust pipes, be careful each exhaust pipe does not drop out.
- Remove heat shield cover. (Scheme 32): Removing Heat Shield Cover
- Remove Snap Pin from range select lever. (Scheme 33): Removing Snap Pin
- Remove plate assembly from transmission case. (Scheme 34): Removing Plate Assembly
- Disconnect cable from select lever and then remove cable bracket. (Scheme 35): Removing Select Cable
- Remove select cable from plate assembly.

- Install select cable to plate assembly. Tightening torque: 32 N.m (3.3 kgf-m, 24 ft-lb)
- Install select cable to range select lever.
- Install plate assembly to transmission. Tightening torque: T: 24.5 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.1 ft-lb) (Scheme 36): Installing Plate Assembly
- Install snap pin to range select lever. (Scheme 37): Installing Snap Pin
- Move the select lever to the "N" position, then adjust the select cable position. See «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-175339-S40980723622005042000000).
- Install heat shield cover. (Scheme 38): Installing Heat Shield Cover
- Install rear exhaust pipe to muffler.
- Install under cover.
Check the removed cable and replace if damaged, rusty, or malfunctioning.
- Check for smooth operation of the cable.
- Check the inner cable for damage and rust.
- Check the outer cable for damage, bends, and cracks.
- Check the boot for damage, cracks, and deterioration.
