Gear Selector Mechanism (Automatic): Removal & Installation Saab 9-3 I

To remove

  1. Move the selector lever to position N or D.
  2. Remove the front part of the selector lever casing.
  3. Press up the SPORT button from below.
  4. Unsolder the SPORT button. Place some form of protection under it so that drops of solder do not fall onto the center console.

Scheme 73: To fit
  1. Solder the leads to the SPORT button. Place some form of protection under it so that drops of solder do not fall onto the center console.
  2. Press the SPORT button into place.
  3. Run the leads in a loop so that they will not be nipped.
  4. Fit the front part of the selector lever casing.
  5. Screw the selector lever together.
  1. Remove the rim around the indicator display.
  2. Carefully press in the 4 catches and lift up the indicator display.
  3. Press out the WINTER button from the indicator display.
  4. Move the protective tubing from the soldered joint on the center wire and unsolder the wiring.

Note. Protect the indicator display when soldering

  1. Remove the selector lever housing, see «SELECTOR LEVER HOUSING»(ref-206778-S23801711042005112600000) . IMPORTANT: When working on a dismantled selector lever housing, the selector lever should be protected with foam rubber or the like.
  2. Remove the ignition switch connector.
  1. Remove the rim around the indicator display.
  2. Remove the indicator display by carefully pressing in the catches.
  3. Lift up the indicator display.
  4. Lift up the green strip and remove the grid.
  5. Remove the lamp with a pair of pliers.

Scheme 74: To fit
  1. Fit a new lamp.
  2. Fit the grid under the green strip.
  3. Fit the indicator display.
  4. Fit the rim around the indicator display.

Scheme 75: To remove
  1. Remove the center console.
  2. Remove the selector lever casing
  3. Cut the cable ties.
  4. Undo the 6-pin connector, remove it from the bracket and remove the wires from pins 4, 5 and 6.
  5. Remove the wire from pin 2 of the 2-pin connector.
  6. Undo the catch on the front edge and hook out the light box from the rear edge. Keep the spring in a safe place.

  1. Fit a new cable tie in the selector lever housing. Tighten the cable tie holding the sector indicator display wiring. Fit the spring. Hook in the rear edge of the light box and then the front edge.
  2. Insert the wires. Fit and connect the 6 -pin and 2 -pin connector.
  3. Secure with cable ties.
  4. Fit the selector lever casing.
  5. Fit the center console and rim.
  6. Check that the selector lever lighting, and the WINTER and SPORT indicator lamps in the instrument panel function correctly.
  1. Remove the rim around the indicator display.
  2. Dismantle the selector lever casing, see «SELECTOR LEVER CASING»(ref-206778-S24690409032005112600000) .
  3. Lift up the indicator display.
  4. Unsolder the WINTER button, see «WINTER BUTTON»(ref-206778-S32695476792005112600000) .
  5. Lift off the indicator display.

Scheme 78: To fit
  1. Place the indicator display over the lever.
  2. Solder on the WINTER button, see «WINTER BUTTON»(ref-206778-S32695476792005112600000) .
  3. Press on the indicator display.
  4. Assemble the selector lever casing, see «SELECTOR LEVER CASING»(ref-206778-S24690409032005112600000) .
  5. Fit the rim around the indicator display.
  1. Remove the rim around the indicator display.
  2. Dismantle the selector lever casing, see «SELECTOR LEVER CASING»(ref-206778-S24690409032005112600000) .
  3. Lift up the indicator display.
  4. Remove the jalousie with indicator display.
