Transaxle
- Park vehicle on level surface. Apply hand brake. Allow engine to idle at normal operating temperature. Depress and hold brake pedal. Slowly shift selector lever from Drive to Reverse, then to Park.
- Check fluid level. Fluid level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on dipstick. Use hot or cold markings on dipstick, depending on transmission fluid temperature. Do not overfill.
Differential
Fill plug hole is located on side of case. Fluid level should be to bottom of hole.
All models use Texaco Texamatic 1863 automatic transmission fluid.
NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH
Note. It may be necessary to remove battery and tray to access neutral safety switch adjustment.
Scheme 2
- Loosen shifter cable tension by moving selector lever to position No. 1. Loosen selector lever nut. Move selector lever to "N" position. Remove selector lever and install Gear Selector Position Sensor Aligner (8792467). Check if line on gear selector position sensor is visible in center of notch on aligner. (Scheme 2)
- To adjust, remove transmission fluid filler pipe as necessary. Loosen neutral safety switch bolts. Move switch until line is visible in center of aligner. Tighten retaining bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-8638-S23620971422000100300000). If removed, reinstall transmission fluid filler pipe and battery.
Scheme 3
- Check if play in selector lever is the same in position "N" as in position "D". If play is not equal, adjust cable by moving selector lever to Park. Lift up cable adjuster clip. (Scheme 3) Place gearshift selector on gearbox in Park. Roll vehicle until Park interlock locks.
- Press selector lever (inside vehicle) backward and press down adjuster clip so it locks cable ferrule. If there is play in Park (inside vehicle), selector lever must be pressed backward while pressing down clip. Ensure play is equal in positions "N" and "D".
