Engine Control Unit, Program

If replacement of an engine control unit is necessary in a vehicle equipped with an immobiliser with transponder, consult the engine control units with immobiliser function table (see section 4.8) for the part number of the relevant control unit - depending on the vehicle type and engine/transmission equipment.

The imo signal must be programmed in the engine control unit with immobiliser function. This is necessary when a new engine control unit is installed in a vehicle or when a new immobiliser control unit is installed and the engine control unit has to "learn" the new imo signal from the immobiliser control unit.

To program the imo signal in the engine control unit with TECH 1, select the required engine from the diagnosis branch SELECT INSTALLED ENGINE?

Activate Immobiliser Function in Engine Control Unit

New control units are delivered with the status "immobiliser deactivated". Until the immobiliser function is activated in the engine control unit after installation in a vehicle with immobiliser, the engine telltale flashes and trouble code 59 is indicated. Programming the imo signal into the engine control unit as described below simultaneously activates the immobiliser function.

Note:SECONDS

Before the ignition is switched on, a waiting period of at least 12 seconds must have elapsed since the last time the ignition was switched off, as otherwise the engine control unit does not send a new request to the immobiliser control unit for the imo signal (control unit run-on period).

Note:
After the ignition is switched on, the imo signal is programmed into the engine control unit. TECH 1 shows the display on the right:IMMOBILISER PROGRAMMING ACTIVE

If IMMOBILISER ALREADY PROGRAM. REPROGRAM? appears, an imo signal has already been programmed into the engine control unit. Confirm with YES, if it is to be reprogrammed.

If CHECK IMMOBILISER ECU! appears, the immobiliser control unit is not programmed. To be able to program the engine control unit, the immobiliser control unit must first be programmed (see section 4.7.3).

If IMMOBILISER NO SIGNAL RECEIVED! appears on the display, first check whether an immobiliser control unit is installed in the vehicle. If an immobiliser control unit is present, check the leads between the two control units (see section 4.3 F0:DATA LIST, test steps 03, 04 and 06).
