· Board Computer Checkable Using TECH 1
As of Model Year 1989, board computers with serial interface are used.
These board computers can be checked using TECH 1 (section 5.4) or Diagnostic Switch KM-640 (section 5.6).

1) Used up board computers without serial interface are replaced in the Service Department by board computers with serial interface. These board computers cannot be tested using TECH 1, however, since the serial interface of the board computer has no connection to the diagnostic plug.
A check of the board computer is only possible using diagnostic switches (see section 5.6 ).
Recognition without Removal
Whether or not the board computer has a serial interface can also be determined without removal. For this, the board computer is put into the mode: Output Program Memory Code, Alpha Code (see section 5.6.1).
With board computers without serial interface, the time display continues to indicate the time (see illus. C 4372).
