Checking with Diagnostic Switch KM-640

Program Memory Code, Alpha Code and Distance Pulse Number, Check

This check allows one to determine whether the board computer contains the correct program memory.

Procedure:

- Ignition ON

- Press stepping key and start key simultaneously > 3 seconds.

- The function display shows program memory code as long as both keys remain pressed. The clock display shows alpha code and version number.

Example:

- Program memory code: "03"

- Alpha code: "EH"

- Version number: "02"

The various program memory codes are listed in Table 3.

The Code No. is also stamped on the vehicle identification plate (only on vehicles with board computer or LCD instrument).

The code called up from the board computer must agree with that stamped on the identification plate, otherwise the program memory must be replaced.

The alpha code is used only for production control; it has no significance for the Service Department.

The version number is a two-digit number (01 to 98) that specifies the software condition of the program memory. The original version receives version number 01, the first revision 02, etc.

After both keys are released, the distance pulse number is shown in the clock display. The distance pulse number specifies how many pulses per kilometre driving distance the board computer must receive from the odometer frequency sensor. If the program memory code is correct, the distance pulse number is automatically also correct.

Diagnostic Switch KM-640, Connect

- Disconnect counterpart from diagnostic plug on vehicle side.

Viewed along the direction of driving, the diagnostic plug is located on VECTRA/CAVALIER on the left side, on OMEGA/CARLTON and SENATOR-B on the right side of the engine compartment at the bulkhead.

- Connect Diagnostic Switch KM-640 onto diagnostic plug.

Survey of Diagnostic Modes

- Bring diagnostic switch into position "D". In position "D", the diagnostic switch connects terminal D of the diagnostic plug (diagnostic excitation line for board computer and LCD instrument) with terminal A (ground).

- Ignition ON

- The clock display shows "d : 1" as the designation for diagnostic mode 1.
