OHC Diesel Engine S8U
The S8U unit is a four-cylinder, single overhead camshaft, normally aspirated, 2.5 litre diesel engine, employing indirect injection. This engine is carried over from the Arena, but is transversely mounted in the Movano.
Special features of the engine include:
- Replaceable dry cylinder liners.
- A cylinder block of rigid construction, the block being split along the horizontal plane of the crankshaft main bearings.
- A separate ancillary unit that drives the fuel injection pump, oil pump, vacuum pump and power steering pump.
- A belt-driven camshaft and ancillary drive unit.
Modifications to the engine are as follows:
- Improved piston ring pack for reduced oil consumption.
- New crankshaft with increased size journals.
- Improved combustion characteristics due to changes to the air intake assembly.
- Improved VE fuel injection pump with knock elimination.
- Increased power by optimising the advance on the fuel injection pump.
- Improved cylinder head gasket and oil pan gasket.
- Water pump modified to accommodate one of the engine damping blocks.
- Thermostat housing modified.
- New oil pan.
- Engine oil cooler is mounted on the ancillary drive unit.
- Exhaust gas recirculation.
- Improved exhaust system.
