General Description
The exterior lighting systems express the design intent of the Opel GT, providing the vehicle with a distinctive, sporty appearance. This is coupled with highly practical and efficient interior lighting systems and ergonomically designed operating control features, which enhance driver comfort.
Exterior Lighting - Front
The vehicle is equipped with halogen projector beam headlamps and fog lamps, which illuminate a wide even area of the road ahead.
The headlamps are mounted on the underside of the bonnet, allowing the lamps to move in conjunction with the bonnet when it is raised. The headlamps converge into the contoured body lines of the bonnet and are equipped with individual dipped beam and main beam bulbs.
The turn signal lamp/park lamps and the fog lamps are installed in the front panelling.
As an added visibility feature, side repeater lamps are positioned in the front of the wheelarch.
Exterior Lighting - Rear
The rear lamp clusters incorporate the brake lamps and turn signal lamps into a single assembly.
A high mounted brake lamp is fitted centrally to the luggage compartment lid, and a single lamp unit combining the reversing lamp and rear fog lamp is located at the centre of the lower rear panelling.
The number plate lamps are discretely placed in the lip above the number plate to achieve maximum illumination.
Exterior Lighting Controls
All of the exterior lighting functions are commanded by the body control module (BCM). They are activated by the turn switch at the end of the multi-function lever, to the left of the steering column. Additionally, the front and rear fog lamp buttons are located to the left of the steering column on the instrument panel, and may only be activated when the main lamps are operational.
Hazard warning lamps are operational with the ignition turned on or off and are activated by the hazard warning button, located in the centre of the instrument panel console.
When the exterior lights are in use, the respective telltales in the instrument assembly are illuminated.
Automatic Dipped Beam Activation
The dipped beam activation function is initiated automatically at the start of every ignition cycle, with the light switch set to the AUTO position. The lighting function utilises the ambient light sensor located on top of the instrument panel to determine the outside brightness.
Note. The dipped beam function may be disabled manually. Upon deactivation, a telltale in the instrument assembly will illuminate.
Interior Lighting
To add to the comfort and safety of the driver and passengers, the vehicle incorporates a number of interior light features.
The main courtesy lamps (1) are located on the underside of the rear view mirror assembly. The lamps are activated automatically for approximately 30 seconds when the doors are unlocked, and extinguish immediately when the doors are locked or the key is turned in the ignition.
The two courtesy lamps may be used as reading lights and are individually controlled by buttons (2) at the base of the mirror assembly.
The luggage compartment lamp is activated automatically when the compartment lid is opened, and will remain illuminated until it is closed.
The Opel GT is also equipped with other supplementary light functions to assist the driver and passenger.
- Instrument panel lamp - remains illuminated while the headlamps are on.
- Cigar lighter lamp - remains illuminated while the headlamps are on.
The interior lamps have a dimming function. An adjuster wheel is located next to the fog lamp buttons on the left hand side of the steering column. The adjuster wheel controls the brightness of the instrument assembly and information displays, as well as the cigar lighter lamp and audio system display.
Note. If any lamps are still on when the ignition is turned off, they will be deactivated after 20 minutes to prevent battery rundown.
