Fuel Injection System
The fuel injection system is an electronically controlled multipoint system. A fuel injector in each inlet tract is opened electrically once each engine revolution, the opening period being determined by the electronic control module (ECM) to give the correct air-fuel mixture for the monitored conditions.
The fuel is pumped from the tank by an immersed pump, the fuel pressure is held at 241 kPa above intake manifold pressure by a pressure control valve which is controlled by the vacuum in the intake manifold, via a solenoid operated vacuum switching valve. The fuel pressure control valve is fitted directly to a gallery feeding the injectors.
The air entering the engine is monitored by a hot wire mass air flow sensor located at the output of the air cleaner. Signals from the mass air flow sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, the throttle position switch, engine speed sensor, crankshaft position sensor and exhaust heated oxygen sensor are used by the ECM to determine the timing and period of the fuel injector opening pulses.
