Alternator - see operation ‘Alternator, Disassemble and Assemble’.

Ball bearing - replace if necessary.

Phases of stator winding for short circuit to ground - use ohmmeter, nominal value - infinite resistance.

Phases of stator winding for short-circuited turn - use ohmmeter.

Resistance of two phases against one another.

Armature winding for short circuit to ground - use ohmmeter, nominal value - infinite resistance.

Armature winding for short-circuited turn - use ohmmeter.

Resistance of slip rings against one another.

Replace armature if short-circuited turn is found.

Slip rings - use lathe and emery cloth.

Slip rings for out-of-round.

Diodes:

For passage way, interruption, short circuit, blocking action.

Test result admits only qualitative information about the effectiveness and the condition of diodes’ barrier layer.

If an exact check of the diodes is to be undertaken, diode-checking equipment should be used.

If a diode is faulty, the whole diode plate should be replaced.

The described check for test lamps is carried out at a voltage of 24 volts maximum.
