Steering Knuckle Replacement Opel Agila B

Remove

  1. 1. Raise vehicle to suitable working height
  2. 2. Remove front road wheel • Remove 4x bolt

Important. When removing the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle, do not pull the wire as there is a risk of damage to the sensor.

  1. 3. Release front wheel speed sensor from front strut assembly • Release rubber grommet (1) from bracket
  2. 4. Remove wheel speed sensor from steering knuckle • Remove bolt
  3. 5. Release brake hose from support bracket • Remove bolt (2)
  1. 6. Release axle shaft from wheel hub • Remove nut – Prise open retaining notch of axle shaft nut – Use Holding Wrench KM-6610 (1) and Handle KM-956-1 (2)

Important. Ensure the retaining notch of the nut does not damage the axle shaft thread when removing.

  1. 7. Release carrier with brake caliper, then position to one side using suitable support • Remove 2x bolt
  2. 8. Remove brake disc • Remove 2x screw (1)
  1. 9. Release tie rod end from steering knuckle • Remove split pin (2), nut (1) • Use Remover KM-507-C
  1. 10. Release ball joint for lower control arm from steering knuckle • Remove nut (3), washer (2), bolt (1)
  1. 11. Release axle shaft from wheel hub • Use Hub Puller KM-6282 (1)
  1. 12. Remove knuckle assembly from strut assembly • Remove 2x bolt (1), 2x nut (2)
  1. 13. Transfer knuckle assembly to hydraulic press
  2. 14. Remove wheel hub from steering knuckle • Press out wheel hub – Use Knuckle Support CH-49039 (2) with Remover KM-778 (1)
  1. 15. Remove bearing race from wheel hub • Tap with chisel to release bearing race (1) from shaft • Remove bearing race using suitable remover (2) with KM-778 (3)
  1. 16. Remove wheel bearing from steering knuckle • Remove circlip • Press out wheel bearing – Use Knuckle Support CH-49039 (2) with Remover/Installer CH-49041 (1)

Install

  1. 17. Install new wheel bearing to new steering knuckle • Press in – Use Knuckle Support CH-49038 (2) with Remover/Installer CH-49041 (1) • Install new circlip
  1. 18. Install hub to steering knuckle • Press in – Use Knuckle Support CH-49038 (2) with Remover/Installer CH-49041 (1)
  1. 19. Transfer knuckle assembly to vehicle
  2. 20. Install knuckle assembly to strut assembly • Install 2x bolt (1), 2x nut (2) 90 Nm
  1. 21. Secure axle shaft to wheel hub • Push in
  1. 22. Secure ball joint for lower control arm to steering knuckle • Install bolt (1) • Install washer (2), new nut (3) 60 Nm

Important. The bolt must be installed from front of vehicle (arrowed) and face towards the rear of vehicle.

  1. 23. Secure tie rod end to steering knuckle • Install nut (1) 45 Nm • Tighten nut 60° max, to align nut slot, then install new split pin (2) – Bend split pin as shown
  1. 24. Install brake disc • Install 2x new retaining screw (1) 9 Nm
  1. 25. Install carrier with brake caliper to steering knuckle • Install 2x new bolt 85 Nm
  2. 26. Secure axle shaft to wheel hub • Install new nut 175 Nm – Use Holding Wrench KM-6610 (1) and Handle KM-956-1 (2) – Caulk nut at notch in axle shaft
  1. 27. Secure brake hose to support bracket • Install bolt (2) 25 Nm
  2. 28. Secure front wheel speed sensor to front strut assembly • Push in rubber grommet (1) to support bracket
  3. 29. Install front wheel speed sensor to steering knuckle • Install bolt
  1. 30. Install front wheel • Install 4x bolt 85 Nm
