Removal
- Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe and the ACL. See «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348656-S06903233342009112700000) .
- Remove the EGR tube fitting from the EGR valve.
- Disconnect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
- Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.
- Disconnect the EGR regulator electrical connector and detach the wiring retainer.
- Disconnect the EVAP tube-to-EVAP canister purge valve quick connect coupling and the brake booster vacuum tube from the upper intake manifold.
- Detach the engine control wiring harness retainer from the upper intake manifold.
- Disconnect the PCV tube from the upper intake manifold.
- Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) electrical connector and detach the wiring retainer.
- Remove the 2 upper intake manifold support bracket bolts from the upper intake manifold.
- Remove the 7 bolts and the upper intake manifold. Remove and discard the gaskets.
Scheme 8
- Position the upper intake manifold and install the 7 bolts. Tighten the bolts in 2 stages in the sequence shown in figure. Stage 1: Tighten to 10 N.m {1.0 kgf.m, 89 in.lbf}. Stage 2: Tighten an additional 45 degrees. NOTE: Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces. Install new gaskets.
- Install the 2 upper intake manifold support bracket bolts. Tighten to 10 N.m {1.0 kgf.m, 89 in.lbf}.
- Connect the MAP electrical connector and attach the wiring retainer.
- Connect the PCV tube to the upper intake manifold.
- Attach the engine control wiring harness retainer to the upper intake manifold.
- Connect the EVAP tube-to-EVAP canister purge valve quick connect coupling and the brake booster vacuum tube to the upper intake manifold.
- Connect the EGR regulator electrical connector and attach the wiring retainer.
- Connect the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector.
- Connect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
- Install the EGR tube fitting to the EGR valve. Tighten to 40 N.m {4.1 kgf.m, 30 ft.lbf}.
- Install the ACL outlet pipe and the ACL See «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348656-S06903233342009112700000) .

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-348661-S24834528062009112700000) .
- Remove the fuel rail. See «FUEL RAIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348657-S35058288642009112700000) .
- Remove the 8 lower intake manifold bolts and the lower intake manifold.
Scheme 10
- Position the lower intake manifold and install the 8 bolts. Tighten in the sequence shown in figure to 10 N.m {0.1 kg. m, 89 in. lb.}. NOTE: Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces. Install new gaskets.
- Install the fuel rail. See «FUEL RAIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348657-S35058288642009112700000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-348661-S24834528062009112700000) .

AIR CLEANER INTAKE PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
- Remove the battery tray. See «BATTERY TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-348661-S24681863762009112700000) .
- Remove the bolt and the air cleaner intake pipe. To install, tighten to 8 N.m {0.8 kgf.m, 71 in.lbf}.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. NOTE: Make sure the front sponge seal of the intake pipe is seated on the shroud panel.
AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
- Loosen the clamp and disconnect the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe from the ACL housing. To install, tighten to 4 N.m {0.4 kgf.m, 35 in.lbf}.
- Release the ACL housing.
- Remove the 3 ACL assembly intake pipe pin-type retainers.
- By lifting upwards on the ACL assembly, release the 4 ACL rubber grommets from the LH valve cover and intake manifold.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. NOTE: When installing the ACL assembly, install the housing on the 2 intake manifold studs first, then install on the 2 LH valve cover studs. NOTE: No tools are needed to remove the ACL assembly. Removal should be carried out using hands only.
AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
- Disconnect the crankcase vent tube from the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe.
- Release the ACL outlet pipe retainer from the ACL housing.
- Loosen the 2 clamps and remove the ACL outlet pipe. To install, tighten to 4 N.m {0.4 kgf.m, 35 in.lbf}.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. NOTE: The ACL outlet pipe must be securely sealed to prevent unmetered air from entering the engine.

- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. See «AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348656-S32039076842009112700000) .
- Disconnect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the Throttle Body (TB). Discard the TB gasket. To install, tighten to 10 N.m {1.0 kgf.m, 89 in.lbf}.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install a new TB gasket.

Scheme 13: ACCELERATOR CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
| WARNING | Keep the sliding inner cable of the accelerator cable, the accelerator pedal and the pedal shaft free of contact with surrounding components such as wiring, hoses, sound insulation and floor carpeting. Contact in these areas may prevent movement of the accelerator cable, reducing the ability to decelerate the vehicle. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury to the vehicle occupant(s). |
Note. The accelerator pedal and shaft should travel smoothly from idle to wide-open throttle positions. Hesitation on return or prevention of return to the idle position must not occur.
Note. The sliding inner member of the accelerator should not be lubricated and is not repairable.
- Remove the cable from the accelerator pedal.
- Remove the accelerator cable grommet from the dash panel.
- Remove the bolt and the accelerator cable bracket. Detach the speed control cable pin-type retainer from the accelerator cable bracket. To install, tighten to 9 N.m {0.9 kgf.m, 80 in.lbf}.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the accelerator control cover shield. To install, tighten to 4 N.m {0.4 kgf.m, 35 in.lbf}.
- Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body.
- Squeeze the tabs and remove the accelerator cable from the bracket.
- Detach the accelerator cable retainer.
- Remove the accelerator cable.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 14: ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
Note. The accelerator pedal bracket and bolts on the 2.5L and 3.0L vehicles are similar but not interchangeable with the 2.5L Hybrid vehicles.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the accelerator pedal and sensor assembly. To install, tighten to 7 N.m {7.0 kgf.m, 62 in.lbf}.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
