  1. If installing new transmission fluid cooler tubes, remove the secondary latches and the retainer from the old transmission fluid cooler tubes and install them on the new transmission fluid cooler tubes.
  2. Position the transmission fluid cooler tubes in place. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes in the transaxle by inserting the tube into the fitting until a click is heard/felt. Pull back to confirm connection is secure and install the secondary latches.
  3. Compress the constant tension clamps and install the transmission fluid cooler tubes on the transmission fluid cooler.
  4. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes in the retaining clip and close the retaining clip.
  5. Install the wiring harness retainer on the main control cover stud bolt.
  6. Position the battery tray bracket in place, install the 4 bolts and the wiring harness fasteners. Attach the wiring harness retainers to the battery tray. Tighten to 9 N.m {0.9 kg. m, 80 in. lb.}.
  7. Position the battery tray in place, install the wiring harness retainer and the 4 bolts. Tighten to 9 N.m {0.9 kg. m, 80 in. lb.}.
  8. Install the ACL assembly. Install the ACL assembly bracket bolt. Tighten to 11 N.m {1.1 kg. m, 97 in. lb.}. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the ACL outlet pipe. Attach the wiring harness fastener to the ACL assembly. Connect the engine breather to the ACL assembly. Tighten the ACL outlet pipe clamp at the TB. Tighten to 4 N.m {0.4 kg. m, 35 in. lb.}.
  9. Install the front bumper cover. See «FRONT BUMPER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-348676-S20817421802009112700000) .
  10. Install the battery. See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-348661-S28953814752009112700000) .
  11. Check the transmission fluid level and add transmission fluid as necessary.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See «LIFTING»(ref-348626-S31954056142009112700000) .
  2. Remove the retainer, the 5 bolts and the LH splash shield.
  3. Disconnect and remove the rear cooler tube fitting from the transaxle case.
  4. Disconnect and remove the fluid cooler tube bracket and bolt from the transaxle case.
  5. Remove the radiator grille. See «RADIATOR GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-348704-S19897691422009112700000) .
  6. Disconnect the front transaxle fluid cooler hose from the transaxle case. NOTE: Do not remove the steel tube from the converter housing.
  7. Disconnect the transaxle fluid cooler hoses from the transaxle fluid combo cooler and discard the transaxle fluid cooler tubes.
  8. Remove the 2 bolts from the lower LH side of the main control cover.

Installation

CAUTIONThe transaxle fluid cooler bypass valve (CBV) is flow directional. The CBV must be installed with the end cap facing up. If not installed correctly, internal damage to the transaxle will result.

Note. The transaxle fluid CBV cannot be successfully cleaned by back flushing, flushing or disassembly. For vehicles that are equipped with this cold weather bypass valve, a new valve should be installed whenever the transaxle is being overhauled.

  1. Install the 2 studs to the lower LH side of the main control cover. Tighten to 13 N.m {1.3 kg. m, 115 in. lb.}.
  2. Position the CBV onto the studs and loosely install the 2 nuts.
  3. Install the transaxle fluid cooler tube into the case fitting near the pump. Tighten to 25 N.m {2.5 kg. m, 18 ft. lb.}.
  4. Tighten the 2 CBV retaining nuts. Tighten to 11 N.m {1.1 kg. m, 97 in. lb.}.
  5. Install the fluid cooler tube bracket onto the pump and install the bolt. Tighten to 12 N.m {1.2 kg. m, 106 in. lb.}.
  6. Install the transaxle fluid cooler hose onto the converter housing tube. Pull the red clip off the constant tension clamp to activate the clamp.
  7. Install the fluid cooler hose on the CBV and install the clamp.
  8. Install the transaxle fluid cooler hose onto the combo fluid cooler lower fitting. Pull the red clip off the constant tension clamp to activate the clamp.
  9. Install the transaxle fluid cooler hose onto the upper fitting of the CBV. Install the other end of the hose to the upper combo cooler tube. Pull the red clip off the constant tension clamps to activate the clamp. Start the vehicle and check the transaxle fluid level. Fill the transaxle with clean automatic transaxle fluid. See «TRANSAXLE - 2.5L INSTALLATION»(ref-348668-S05978645032009112700000) .
