INSPECTION OF OPERATION

  1. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON position.
  2. Verify that the O/D OFF indicator light is not illuminated. Press the O/D OFF switch and verify that the O/D OFF indicator light illuminates. Of not as specified, inspect the terminal voltage of the O/D OFF switch. (See «INSPECTION OF VOLTAGE»(ref-178052-S18698801252005061000000) .)

  1. Turn the ignition switch at ON position.
  2. Measure the voltage at the O/D OFF switch connector. If not as specified, inspect for continuity at the O/D OFF switch. (See «INSPECTION OF CONTINUITY»(ref-178052-S18626077692005061000000) .)

  1. Disconnect the O/D OFF switch connector.
  2. Inspect continuity at the O/D OFF switch. If the switch is okay, inspect the wiring harness. (O/D OFF switch-TCM, O/D OFF switch-Body ground) If not as specified, replace the selector lever component. (See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  1. Verify that the starter operates only with the ignition switch at the START position and the selector lever in P and N positions. If not as specified, inspect for continuity at the TR switch. (See «INSPECTION OF CONTINUITY»(ref-178052-S29144462272005061000000) .)
  2. Verify that the back-up lights illuminate when shifted to R position with the ignition switch at the ON position. If not as specified, inspect for continuity at the TR switch.

  1. Disconnect the TR switch connector.
  2. Inspect for continuity at the TR switch. If not as specified, adjust the TR switch, then reinspect the TR switch. (See «TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH ADJUSTMENT»(ref-178052-S21445023362005061000000) .)
  3. Connect the TR switch connector.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the battery carrier, battery tray, and battery.
  3. Remove the air cleaner component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Disconnect the TR switch connector.
  5. Removal the spring and disconnect the selector cable.
  6. Rotate the manual shaft to the N position.
  7. Set the adjustable wrench as shown to hold the manual shaft lever.
  8. Remove the manual shaft nut and washer.
  9. Remove the manual shaft lever.
  10. Remove the TR switch.
  11. Rotate the manual shaft to the right fully, them return 2 notches to set the N position. CAUTION: Improper adjustment of the TR switch will cause abnormal operation of the automatic transaxle. Be sure to use the SST to adjust the TR switch correctly.
  12. Using the SST and by turning the TR switch, adjust the positions of the manual shaft and the TR switch neutral hole.
  13. Tighten the TR switch mounting bolts. Tightening Torque 4.9-6.9 N.m {50.0-70.4 kgf.cm, 43.4-61.1 in-lbf}
  14. Inspect for continuity at the TR switch between terminals C and D.
  15. Remove the SST .
  16. Install the manual shaft lever and washer.
  17. Set the adjustable wrench as shown to hold the manual shaft lever.
  18. Tighten the manual shaft nut using a torque wrench. Tightening Torque 31-46 N.m {3.2-4.7 kgf.m, 23-34 ft.lbf}
  19. Install the spring as shown in the figure. If it is bend, replace a new spring.
  20. Verify that the selector lever range position and TR switch are aligned, then connect the selector cable.
  21. Inspect for continuity at the TR switch. (See «INSPECTION OF CONTINUITY»(ref-178052-S29144462272005061000000) .)
  22. Connect the TR switch connector.
  23. Install the air cleaner component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  24. Install the battery carrier, battery tray, and battery.
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
  26. Inspect operation of the TR switch. (See «INSPECTION OF OPERATION»(ref-178052-S29124378372005061000000) .)
  1. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON position.
  2. Verify that the O/D OFF indicator light is not illuminated.
  3. Press the switch and verify that the O/D OFF indicator illuminates. If the O/D OFF switch function is not as specified, after checking the O/D OFF switch (See «O/D OFF SWITCH INSPECTION»(ref-178052-S11832284492005061000000) .), inspect the terminal voltage of the O/D OFF indicator light.
