FILTER REPLACEMENT

This procedure is included in valve body removal and installation. See VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGVehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIRBAG article in RESTRAINTS.
CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Note. For component locations. see scheme 4

  3. Remove bolts, and carefully remove oil pan assembly, discard gasket. Examine particles in pan by Removing magnets using them to collect any steel chips. Look carefully at chips and particles in pan and on magnet to anticipate what type of wear you may find in transaxle. Steel is magnetic indicating bearing, gear and plate wear. Brass is non-magnetic indicating bearing wear.
  4. Disconnect transaxle wire: Disconnect shift solenoid connectors and remove bolt and lock plate from ATF temperature sensor. Disconnect the ATF temperature sensor.
