SERVICE INTERVALS

As part of general maintenance requirements for this vehicle, manufacturer requires checking for transmission fluid leaks.

Under normal conditions, manufacturer recommends transmission fluid be inspected every 30,000 miles. See CHECKING FLUID LEVELS .

Under severe conditions (vehicle is used primarily to tow a trailer or haul a car top carrier), manufacturer recommends inspecting transmission fluid every 30,000 miles to determine its condition and determine need for replacement. Manufacturer recommends replacing transmission fluid at 60,000 mile intervals. See CHECKING FLUID LEVELS .

TRANSAXLE FLUID SERVICE INTERVALS

CHECKING FLUID LEVELS

CAUTIONDo not overfill transaxle.

Note. After extended driving at high speeds, in hot weather, in heavy traffic or pulling a trailer, wait until engine cools down (about 30 minutes) before checking fluid level.

  1. Start and run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature of 158-176°F (70-80°C).
  2. Park vehicle on level surface.
  3. With engine idling and brake pedal depressed, shift lever into all positions from "P" to "L" and return to "P" position.
  4. Pull out dipstick and wipe it clean.
  5. Place dipstick back into filler pipe.
  6. Pull out dipstick and check that fluid level is in HOT range. (Scheme 17) Add fluid if necessary. See «RECOMMENDED FLUIDS»(ref-168021-S02684304662004102800000): Check fluid condition. If fluid smells burned or is Black, replace it. See «DRAINING & REFILLING»(ref-168021-S40944435512004102800000). Road test vehicle and recheck fluid level to verify it is at proper level.

TRANSAXLE FLUID TYPE

DRAINING & REFILLING

  1. Remove drain plug and drain fluid. (Scheme 18)
  2. Install NEW gasket and drain plug. Tighten drain plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168021-S37518742892004102800000).
  3. With engine OFF, add NEW fluid through oil filler pipe up to COOL level on dipstick. (Scheme 17) See «RECOMMENDED FLUIDS»(ref-168021-S02684304662004102800000).
  4. Start engine and shift lever into all positions from "P" to "L" and then shift into "P" position.
  5. With engine idling, check fluid level.
  6. Add fluid up to COOL level on dipstick.
  7. Check fluid level at normal operating temperature of 158-176°F (70-80°C) and add as necessary. (Scheme 17)
  8. Check for transmission fluid leaks. If there are leaks, repair as necessary.
