- CHECK CRANKING When starting the engine, check whether the starter motor starts. OK --> CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS NG: Go to next step
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Starter Signal. Read the values. Check the result when the engine switch is turned on (IG) and when the engine is started. Standard Display (Starter Signal) Condition Close Engine switch on (IG) Open Engine start OK --> See step 7 NG: Go to next step
- INSPECT ECM (STSW VOLTAGE) Disconnect the A10 ECM Connector. Measure the voltage between the specified terminal of the ECM connector and body ground while cranking the engine. Standard voltage Tester Connection Specified Condition STSW (A10-14) - Body ground 9 to 14 V Reconnect the ECM connector. NG --> See step 11 OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ECM (STAR VOLTAGE) Remove the ST CUT relay from the engine room R/B. Measure the voltage between the specified terminal of the engine room R/B and body ground while cranking the engine. Standard voltage Tester Connection Specified Condition ST CUT relay (3) - Body ground 9 to 14 V Reinstall the ST CUT relay. NG --> See step 8 OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ST CUT RELAY Remove the ST CUT relay from the engine room R/B. Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance Tester Connection Specified Condition 3 - 5 10 kohms or higher 3 - 5 Below 1 ohms (when battery voltage is applied to terminals 1 and 2) Reinstall the ST CUT relay. NG --> REPLACE ST CUT RELAY OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY Inspect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch. Disconnect the B36 switch connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance Gear Selector Lever Position Tester Connection Specified Condition P 4 - 5 Below 1 ohms N 4 - 5 Below 1 ohms Reconnect the PNP switch connector. NG --> See step 12 OK: CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- INSPECT STARTER RELAY Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B. Measure the resistance between the terminals. Standard resistance Tester Connection Specified Condition 3 - 5 10 kohms or higher 3 - 5 Below 1 ohms (when battery voltage is applied to terminals 1 and 2) Reinstall the ST relay. NG --> REPLACE STARTER RELAY OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - STARTER RELAY) Disconnect the B36 park/neutral position switch connector. Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance (Check for open) Tester Connection Specified Condition B36-9 - ST relay terminal (1) Below 1 ohms Standard resistance (Check for open) Tester Connection Specified Condition B36-9 or ST relay terminal (1) - Body ground 10 kohms or higher Reinstall the ST relay. NG --> REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ENGINE ROOM RELAY BLOCK (STARTER RELAY VOLTAGE) Remove the ST relay from the engine room R/B. Measure the voltage between the specified terminal of the engine room R/B and body ground. Standard voltage Tester Connection Specified Condition ST relay (5) - Body ground 9 to 14 V NG --> REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT STARTER ASSEMBLY NG --> REPAIR OR REPLACE STARTER ASSEMBLY OK --> REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STARTER RELAY - STARTER, STARTER - BATTERY)
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - ECM) Disconnect the E58 main body ECU connector. Disconnect the A10 ECM connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance (Check for open) Tester Connection Specified Condition STSW (E58-4) - STSW (A10-14) Below 1 ohms Standard resistance (Check for short) Tester Connection Specified Condition STSW (E58-4) or STSW (A10-14) - Body ground 10 kohms or higher Reconnect the main body ECU connector. Reconnect the ECM connector. NG --> REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: GO TO APPROPRIATE SERVICE INFORMATION FOR SMART ACCESS SYSTEM WITH PUSH-BUTTON START
- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-396649-S20158942132011050900000)
