INSPECTION
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
- Disconnect vacuum hose from EVAP canister purge valve side of hose.
- Verify that no vacuum is felt at EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve.
- If not as specified, check EVAP canister purge valve operation.
- If valve is operating properly, reinstall vacuum hose.
- Measure canister close valve resistance. Resistance: Approximately 24 ohms +/- 1.5 at 68°F (20°C)
- If not as specified, replace the canister close valve.

- Disconnect vacuum hoses from EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.
- Verify that no air flows through valve.
- Disconnect valve connector and apply 12 volt battery voltage as shown in figure.
- Verify that air flows through valve.
- If no air flows, replace the valve.
- Reinstall valve connector.
- Reconnect vacuum hoses.
Exhaust emissions (CO, HC, NOx) are controlled by a combination of engine modifications and the addition of special control components.
Modifications to the combustion chamber, intake manifold, camshaft and ignition system form the basic control system.
These items have been integrated into a highly effective system which controls exhaust emissions while maintaining good driveability and fuel economy.
