Note. DTC P0132: 1/1 O2 SEN SHORTED TO VOLTAGE is monitored with engine running for more than 2 minutes and engine coolant temperature reaches 170°F (76.7°C). DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when PCM senses that 1/1 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) voltage is more than 1.2 volts. Possible causes are: defective 1/1 HO2S, defective PCM, defective connectors or defective wiring.
Note. 1/1 HO2S is located in upstream position.
- Start engine and warm to temperature more than 180°F (82.2°C). Leave engine running for 4 minutes. Using scan tool, read 1/1 HO2S voltage. If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, go to step 8).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located in engine compartment. See PCM LOCATION table under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS. Clean and/or repair connectors as necessary. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using a voltmeter, check voltage on PCM connector, 1/1 HO2S signal circuit (Black/Dark Green wire). If voltage is 5 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 5 volts, 1/1 HO2S repair signal circuit for short to voltage. Perform TEST VER-5A.
- Ensure ignition is off. Ensure PCM connectors are still disconnected. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using a voltmeter, check and monitor voltage at PCM connector, 1/1 HO2S signal circuit (Black/Dark Green wire) while wiggling 1/1 HO2S connector and wiring harness. If voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness, repair short to voltage in 1/1 HO2S signal circuit. Perform TEST VER-5A. If voltage does not change, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 1/1 HO2S connector. Clean and/or repair connector as necessary. Visually inspect connector for corroded, damaged, pushed-out or miswired terminals. Repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Start engine and warm to temperature more than 180°F (82.2°C). Leave engine running for 4 minutes. Ensure 1/1 HO2S and PCM connectors are still disconnected. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, read 1/1 HO2S voltage. If voltage is 4.97 volts or less, replace 1/1 HO2S. Perform TEST VER-5A. If voltage is more than 4.97 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure PCM connectors are still disconnected. Visually inspect connectors for corroded, damaged, pushed-out or miswired terminals. Repair connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- At this time, PCM is assumed to be defective. Replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-5A.
- Ensure engine temperature is more than 180°F (82.2°C) and engine has been running for 4 minutes. Using scan tool, read and monitor 1/1 HO2S voltage while wiggling connector and wiring harness. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less at any time, go to next step. If voltage is more than 1.5 volts at any time, repair intermittent short to voltage in wiring harness. Perform TEST VER-5A.
- Turn ignition off. Visually inspect related connectors and wiring harness for damage. Repair connectors and wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-5A. If connectors and wiring harness are okay, test is complete.
