DESCRIPTION

WARNINGTo avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING.

A/C-heater climate control system provides filtered air to cabin from a fully automatic, dual zone, temperature controlled system. Driver and front passenger have independent control of air temperature for their side of vehicle. Temperature range for driver side is 60-90°F (16-32°C) and for passenger side the range is 65-85°F (18-29°C). System regulates volume of airflow from vents in instrument panel, rear seat panel, front and rear floor ducts, front window defroster and side windows. Fresh or recirculated air is automatically selected to assist in rapid cooling of interior. A/C-heater system can be turned on by pressing any control panel button, except off. (Scheme 3) When AUTO is selected, air temperature selected by driver and front passenger, fan speed and air distribution are automatically controlled to give optimum comfort under most driving conditions. Manual controls allow driver to override automatic operation of A/C compressor, recirculated/fresh air, 7 blower speeds and air distribution.

Operation of heated front window or heated wiper park area and rear window heater is controlled from A/C-heater control panel. When rear window heater is selected, door mirror heaters are activated.

A/C refrigerant system is a clutch cycling, thermostatic expansion valve type. System components include A/C compressor and clutch, condenser, evaporator, Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV), receiver-drier and various refrigerant lines. (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). A/C refrigerant system is controlled by the thermostatic expansion valve, evaporator discharge temperature sensor, ambient air temperature sensor, compressor pressure relief valve, A/C system pressure transducer, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Dual Automatic Temperature Control (DATC) module/panel.
