RIDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Note. Prior to performing wheel alignment, perform preliminary visual and mechanical inspection of wheels, tires and suspension components.

INSTALLING ADJUSTMENT CAM BOLTS (VEHICLES WITHOUT CAMBER & CASTER ADJUSTMENT CAM BOLTS)

Note. This procedure must be carried out using a 4 post lift. It will be necessary to adjust camber, caster and toe-in after completing this procedure.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove steering gear bolts and reposition steering gear. (Scheme 2)
  2. Using a pair of 4 x 4 in. wooden blocks between the lifting device and the No. 2 crossmember, raise and support the front end of the vehicle. (Scheme 3)
  3. Remove and discard the lower control arm front lock nut and retaining bolt. From the rear, install the new caster adjustment cam bolt. (Scheme 4) Ensure the cam lobe is in the down position and seated between the cam guides on the No. 1 crossmember. Install a new lock nut on the adjustment cam bolt.
  4. Remove and discard the lower control arm rear lock nut and retaining bolt. From the rear, install the new camber adjustment cam bolt. (Scheme 5) Ensure the cam lobe is in the down position and seated in the groove in the No. 2 crossmember. Install a new lock nut on the adjustment cam bolt.
  5. Lower the front end of the vehicle and attach the steering gear. Tighten steering gear mounting bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S30886578302004061100000).
  6. Adjust camber, caster and toe as necessary. See «FRONT CAMBER ADJUSTMENT»(ref-162814-S18576750612004061100000), «FRONT CASTER ADJUSTMENT»(ref-162814-S20224660982004061100000) and «FRONT TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT»(ref-162814-S25754358962004061400000)

FRONT CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

Note. This procedure must be carried out using a 4 post lift.

Note. Adjustments to the camber will affect the toe in. Therefore, the camber and toe settings may need to be adjusted at the same time to achieve the correct settings. Both the left and right toe need to be adjusted when adjusting the camber. On vehicles that do not have adjustment cam bolts, it will be necessary to replace the lower control arm bolts with adjustment cam bolts. See INSTALLING ADJUSTMENT CAM BOLTS (VEHICLES WITHOUT CAMBER & CASTER ADJUSTMENT CAM BOLTS) .

  1. Raise vehicle on a 4 post lift. Loosen the tie rod end lock nut and remove the steering gear boot clamp. (Scheme 6) Clean and lubricate the lock nut and tie rod threads. Rotate the tie rod to adjust the toe. Do not allow the steering gear boot to twist when the tie rod is rotated.
  2. Loosen the lower control arm rear lock nut (camber adjustment cam bolt and nut). (Scheme 5)
  3. Rotate the camber adjustment cam bolt to adjust the camber as necessary.
  4. Following the alignment equipment manufacturer's instructions, recheck the camber and toe settings. Readjust the camber and toe settings as necessary to achieve proper alignment specifications. See «WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S12305609652004061100000).
  5. Ensuring that the camber adjustment cam bolt does not turn, tighten the lock nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S30886578302004061100000).
  6. Ensuring that the tie rod does not turn, tighten the tie rod end lock nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S30886578302004061100000). Tighten the steering gear boot clamp. Lower vehicle.

REAR CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

Camber is factory set and not adjustable. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS . No other information is not available from manufacturer.

FRONT CASTER ADJUSTMENT

Note. This procedure must be carried out using a 4 post lift.

Note. Adjustments to the caster will affect the toe in. Therefore, the caster and toe settings may need to be adjusted at the same time to achieve the correct settings. Both the left and right toe need to be adjusted when adjusting the caster.

Loosen the lower control arm front lock nut (caster adjustment cam bolt and nut). (Scheme 4) Loosen the tie rod end lock nut and remove the steering gear boot clamp. (Scheme 6) Clean and lubricate the lock nut and tie rod threads. Rotate the tie rod to adjust the toe. Do not allow the steering gear boot to twist when the tie rod is rotated.
  2. Rotate the caster adjustment cam bolt to adjust the caster as necessary.
  3. Following the alignment equipment manufacturer's instructions, recheck the caster and toe settings. Readjust the caster and toe settings as necessary to achieve proper alignment specifications. See «WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S12305609652004061100000).
  4. Ensuring that the caster adjustment cam bolt does not turn, tighten the lock nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S30886578302004061100000).
  5. Ensuring that the tie rod does not turn, tighten the tie rod end lock nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S30886578302004061100000). Tighten the steering gear boot clamp. Lower vehicle.

FRONT TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT

  1. Start the engine and center the steering wheel. Turn engine off and hold the steering wheel in the straight ahead position by attaching a rigid link from the steering wheel to the brake pedal. Following the alignment equipment manufacturer's instructions, check the toe settings.
  2. Raise vehicle on a 4 post lift. Loosen the tie rod end lock nut and remove the steering gear boot clamp. (Scheme 6) Clean and lubricate the lock nut and tie rod threads. Rotate the tie rod, as necessary, and adjust toe to specification. See «WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S12305609652004061100000). Do not allow the steering gear boot to twist when the tie rod is rotated.
  3. Ensuring that the tie rod does not turn, tighten the tie rod end lock nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162814-S30886578302004061100000). Tighten the steering gear boot clamp. Lower vehicle.

REAR TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT

Raise vehicle on a 4 post lift. Loosen the toe link lock nut. (Scheme 7) Clean and lubricate the lock nut and toe link threads. Rotate the toe link, as necessary, and adjust toe to specification. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS.
