- Reset the ECM with the HDS.
- Check the engine oil level. Is the level OK? YES - Go to step 3. NO - Adjust the engine oil to the proper level.
- Start the engine, and check the idle. Is it normal (700-800 rpm)? YES - Go to step 4. NO - Replace the VTEC solenoid valve assembly (see «VTEC Solenoid Valve Removal/Inspection»(ref-176533-S35113039902005050600000) ).
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Check for Temporary DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0521 indicated? YES - Go to step 6. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EOP sensor and the ECM.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Remove the EOP sensor (A), and install the special tools as shown, then install the EOP sensor (A) in the pressure gauge adapter (B). NOTE: Install the part in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring.
- Start the engine, and check the oil pressure. Is there more than 49 kPa (0.5 kgf/cm 2 , 7.1 psi)? YES - Replace the EOP sensor (see «EOP Sensor Replacement»(ref-176533-S17727344232005050600000) ). NO - Replace the VTEC solenoid valve assembly (see «VTEC Solenoid Valve Removal/Inspection»(ref-176533-S35113039902005050600000) ).

- Reset the ECM with the HDS.
- Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0522 indicated? YES - Go to step 4. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EOP sensor and the ECM.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the EOP sensor 3P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between EOP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. Is there about 5 V? YES - Go to step 9. NO - Go to step 8.
- Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals A10 and A20. Is there about 5 V? YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A20) and the EOP sensor. NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck (see «ECM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-176531-S13764864602005050600000) ). If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE OR REPLACE THE ECM»(ref-176531-S19987328622005050600000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Wait for 1 minute. If the radiator fan is running, wait for 1 minute after the radiator fan stops.
- Disconnect ECM connector C (22P).
- Check for continuity between EOP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM (C3) and the EOP sensor. NO - Go to step 13.
- Substitute a known-good EOP sensor, then recheck (see «EOP Sensor Replacement»(ref-176533-S17727344232005050600000) ).
