Perform PCM reset procedure. See Self Diagnostic section. Start engine and run at 3000 RPM with no loads and transmission in Park or Neutral until radiator fan comes on. Connect SCS Service Connector (07PAZ-0010100 ). Test drive vehicle at a steady speed of 55 MPH in 5th gear until readiness code comes on. If DTC P1165 is not indicated, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at HO2S-1 and PCM connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If DTC P1164 is indicated, replace HO2S-1.

- Perform PCM reset procedure. See Self Diagnostic section. Start engine. If DTC P1166 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC P1166 is not indicated, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires between HO2S-1 and PCM connectors. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-16355) article. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S-1, 8-pin connector. Measure resistance between HO2S-1, 8-pin pigtail connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). (Scheme 31) If resistance is 2-13 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 2-13 ohms, replace HO2S-1.
- Check for continuity between ground and HO2S-1, 8-pin pigtail connector terminals, individually. (Scheme 31) If continuity does not exist at any terminal, go to next step. If continuity exists at any terminal, replace HO2S-1.
- Check for continuity between HO2S-1, 8-pin pigtail connector terminal No. 1 and terminals No. 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8, individually. (Scheme 31) If continuity does not exist at any terminal, go to next step. If continuity exists at any terminal, replace HO2S-1.
- Start engine and keep engine RPM at idle. Measure voltage between ground and HO2S-1, 8-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). see scheme 11 If more than 5.0 volts exists, go to next step. If 5.0 volts or less exists, go to step 7).
- Measure voltage between HO2S-1, 8-pin harness connector terminals No. 1 (Black/White wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). If more than 5.0 volts exists, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If symptom or problem goes away, replace original PCM. If 5.0 volts or less exists, repair open in Black wire between HO2S-1 connector and ground connection G101, located on thermostat housing.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 32-pin connector "A". Check for continuity between ground and PCM 32-pin connector "A" terminal A6 (Black/White wire). see scheme 1 If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short in Black/White wire between PCM and HO2S-1. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-16355) article.
- Check for continuity between PCM 32-pin connector "A" terminal A6 (Black/White wire) and HO2S-1, 8-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). see scheme 1and see scheme 11. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black/White wire between PCM and HO2S-1. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-16355) article. If continuity exists, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If symptom or problem goes away, replace original PCM.
