TEST EQUIPMENT
All voltage tests should be performed with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless specifically stated differently in testing procedure.
Use Backprobe Set (07SAZ-001000A) (2 required) to backprobe Engine Control Module (ECM) when directed by testing. (Scheme 137) For ECM connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. DO NOT puncture wire insulation. Place tester probe into contact with terminal, from terminal side of wiring harness connectors in engine compartment. For female connectors, just touch terminal lightly with tester probe. DO NOT insert probe into terminal.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
Note. In the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) testing, illustration is courtesy of American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
When directed by testing procedure to install test equipment, see TEST EQUIPMENT .
NO DTC ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)
Note. If symptom is intermittent, check for loose fuse No. 1 BACK UP LIGHTS, METER LIGHTS (10-amp) in underhood fuse/relay box, poor connection at ECM terminal A7, or an intermittent open in Light Green/Red wire between ECM terminal A7 and gauge assembly.
- If Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) never comes on, even for 2 seconds after ignition is turned on, go to next step. If MIL stays on or comes on after 2 seconds, go to step 5).
- Turn ignition on. If low oil pressure light is on, go to next step. If low oil pressure light is not on, replace fuse No. 1 and repair short in Yellow wire between fuse No. 1 BACK-UP LIGHTS, METER LIGHTS (10-amp) and gauge assembly.
- If oil pressure light is on, try to start engine. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminals A12 and A25. If less than one volt is present, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original ECM. If one volt or more is present, repair open in Black wire(s) between ECM and ground (G101), located at thermostat housing.
- Turn ignition off. Connect ECM terminal A7 to body ground. Turn ignition on. If MIL illuminates, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original ECM. If MIL does not illuminate, replace MIL bulb or repair open Light Green/Red wire between ECM connector terminal A7 and gauge assembly.
- Connect scan tool or Honda PGM tester. Turn ignition on. Read DTCs (if present). If DTCs are present, go to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION»(ref-15920-S27729741042001122700000) . After identifying DTC, go to appropriate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) test. If DTCs are not present, go to next step.
- Attempt to start engine. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, go to step 9).
- Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals D13 and D22. If approximately 5 volts is present, go to next step. If approximately 5 volts is not present, repair short to ground in Red wire between ECM connector terminal D13 and service check connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector "A". Turn ignition on. If MIL is on, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire between ECM and MIL. If MIL is not on, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original ECM.
- Inspect fuse No. 33 ECM (15-amp), located in underhood fuse/relay box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, repair short in White/Green wire between fuse No. 33 and PGM-FI main relay and replace fuse.
- Inspect No. 2 FUEL PUMP (15-amp) fuse in underdash fuse/relay box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, repair short in Red/White wire between underdash fuse/relay box and PGM-FI main relay and replace fuse.
- Turn ignition on. While observing MIL, disconnect 3-pin Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, Throttle Position (TP) sensor and EGR valve lift sensor, each one at a time. If MIL goes off for a few seconds and then comes back on, DTC P1660 will be stored in ECM memory. Go to next step. If MIL does not go off for a few seconds and then come back on, replace sensor that caused MIL to go out.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector "D". Check for continuity between body ground and ECM connector terminals D10 and D21. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Yellow/White wire between ECM connector terminal D10 and MAP sensor, or Yellow/Blue wire between ECM connector terminal D21, and TP sensor or EGR valve lift sensor.
- Disconnect injector resistor and IAC valve connectors. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between body ground and ECM connector terminals A13 and B1. If there is battery voltage, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for poor connection at ECM and injector resistor. Repair open in Yellow/Black wires between ECM and injector resistor (if necessary).
- If battery voltage was present, reconnect all sensor connectors. Reconnect ECM connector "D". Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between body ground and ECM connector terminals A26 and B9. If voltage reading for either terminal is less than one volt, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original ECM. If voltage reading for either terminal is more than one volt, repair open in Brown/Black wire between ground (G101) at thermostat housing and ECM terminal(s) No. A26 and/or B9.
