DIAGNOSTIC TEST
- ACTIVE DTC NOTE: The most likely cause of this DTC is (K902) O2 Sensor Return circuit shorted to ground. Ignition on, engine not running. With the scan tool, select View DTCs. Copy DTC and Freeze Frame information. Start the engine. WARNING: When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. Do not wear loose clothing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature. Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes. With the scan tool, select View DTCs. Is the status Active for this DTC? Yes Go To 2 No Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to «INTERMITTENT CONDITION»(ref-646316-S20980633052014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (K902) O2 SENSOR 1/1 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit at the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms? Yes Go To 3 No Repair the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit for a short to ground. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- O2 SENSOR 1/1 Turn the ignition off. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Ignition on, engine not running. With the scan tool, monitor the O2 Sensor 1/1 voltage readings. Connect a jumper between the (K41) O2 Sensor 1/1 Signal circuit and the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit in the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector. Is the voltage between 2.3 and 2.7 volts with the jumper installed? Yes Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the O2 Sensor and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Replace the O2 Sensor if no problems were found with the connections. Refer to «SENSOR, OXYGEN, REMOVAL»(ref-646230-S13401513602014072800000) . Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 4 NOTE: Remove the jumper before continuing.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Oxygen Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Oxygen Sensor and Control Module connectors. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were there any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to «MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL»(ref-646224-S21304088122014072800000) . Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .

- CHECK THE (K902) O2 SENSOR 1/1 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit at the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector. Is there any voltage present? Yes Repair the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit for a short to voltage. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 3
- CHECK THE (K902) O2 SENSOR 1/1 RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic). Measure the resistance of the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit between the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the (K902) 02 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- O2 SENSOR Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Ignition on, engine not running. With the scan tool, monitor the O2 Sensor 1/1 voltage. Connect a jumper between the (K41) O2 Sensor 1/1 Signal circuit and the (K902) O2 Sensor 1/1 Return circuit at the O2 Sensor 1/1 harness connector. Is the voltage read between 2.3 and 2.7 volts with the jumper installed? Yes Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the O2 Sensor and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Replace the O2 Sensor if no problems were found with the connections. Refer to «SENSOR, OXYGEN, REMOVAL»(ref-646230-S13401513602014072800000) . Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 5 NOTE: Remove the jumper before continuing.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Oxygen Sensor and the PCM. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Monitor the scan tool data relative to this circuit and wiggle test the wiring and connectors. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- DTC IS ACTIVE Start the engine or crank the engine until the MIL light illuminates. WARNING: When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. - (F856 AND K854) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT 2 VOLTAGE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the APP Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the (K854) 5-Volt Supply circuit in the APP Sensor harness connector. Select the appropriate response from the list below: Voltage above 5.2 Volts Repair the (F856 and/or K854) 5-Volt Supply 2 circuit for a short to voltage. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . Voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 Volts Go To 3 Voltage below 4.8 Volts Go To 4
- ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Reconnect the APP Sensor harness connector. Disconnect the Camshaft 1/2 Position Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the Camshaft 1/2 Position Sensor harness connector. Is the voltage below 4.8 volts? Yes Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor in accordance with the Service Information because it is the sensor pulling the 5-volt reference low. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 10
- CAMSHAFT 1/2 POSITION SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Camshaft 1/2 Position Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the Camshaft 1/2 Position Sensor harness connector. Is the voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 volts? Yes Replace the Camshaft 1/2 Position Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to «SENSOR, MANIFOLD AIR PRESSURE (MAP), REMOVAL»(ref-646230-S40859222602014072800000) . Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 5
- ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the APP Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure voltage of the (K854) APP 2 5-Volt Supply circuit at the APP Sensor harness connector. Is the voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 volts? Yes Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 6
- MAP SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the MAP Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the MAP Sensor harness connector. Is the voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 volts? Yes Replace the MAP Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to «SENSOR, MANIFOLD AIR PRESSURE (MAP), REMOVAL»(ref-646230-S40859222602014072800000) . Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 7
- FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the (N8) Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor 5-Volt Supply circuit at the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor harness connector. Is the voltage between 4.8 and 5.2 volts? Yes Replace the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 8
- 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM harness connectors. Measure the resistance between ground and the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K852) APP Sensor 2 5-Volt Supply circuit. Measure the resistance between ground and the (N8) Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor 5-Volt Supply circuit. Is the resistance above 1000 Ohms for all circuits? Yes Go To 9 No Repair the 5-Volt Supply circuit that measured below 1000 Ohms for a short to ground. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE NOTE: All of the above sensors must be disconnected. Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance of the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the Camshaft Position Sensor 1/1 harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Measure the resistance of the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the MAP Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Measure the resistance of the (K852) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the APP Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Measure the resistance of the (N8) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms for all of the circuits? Yes Go To 10 No Repair the 5-Volt Supply circuit that measured above 5.0 Ohms for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Inspect the (K852) APP Sensor 1 5-Volt Supply circuit between the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Inspect the (N8) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Inspect the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the Camshaft Position Sensor 1/2 harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Inspect the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the MAP Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. If the vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, inspect the (F856) 5-Volt Supply circuit between the Vehicle Speed Sensor harness connector and the PCM harness connector. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to «MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL»(ref-646224-S21304088122014072800000) . - SCAN TOOL DISPLAYS A WRITE FAILURE With a scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test. Does scan tool display Write Failure? Yes Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 2
- SCAN TOOL DISPLAYS A WRITE REFUSED With the a scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test. Does the scan tool display Write Refused? Yes Go To 3 No Go To 4
- PCM REFUSED 2ND TEST With a scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test a third time. NOTE: Retest the SRI Memory two more times. Does the scan tool display Write Refused again? Yes Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Test Complete.
- SCAN TOOL DISPLAYS SRI MILEAGE INVALID With a scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test. Does the scan tool display SRI Mileage Invalid? Yes Update the mileage and retest the SRI Memory. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 5
- COMPARE SRI MILEAGE WITH ODOMETER Compare the SRI Mileage stored with the Instrument Panel Odometer. Is the mileage within the specified range displayed on the scan tool? Yes Test Complete. No Update the mileage and retest the SRI Memory. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
SRI MILEAGE NOT PROGRAMMED INTO THE PCM
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, attempt to program the SRI mileage into the PCM.
- With the scan tool, clear DTCs in the PCM.
- Test drive the vehicle at least eight miles.
- With a scan tool, select View DTCs. Is the status Active for this DTC? Yes Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No The SRI mileage has been successfully programmed into the PCM. Test is complete. Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- DTC IS ACTIVE NOTE: Diagnose and repair any other DTCs set in the PCM before proceeding with this test. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, clear DTCs. - PCM ODOMETER MILEAGE NOT PROGRAMMED Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, attempt to perform the Program PCM Odometer function. With the scan tool, Clear DTCs. Start the engine. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature. With the scan tool, select View DTCs. Is the status Active for this DTC? Yes Go To 3 No The SRI mileage has been successfully programmed into the PCM. Test is complete. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECKING THE PCM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUITS Perform the CHECKING THE PCM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUITS diagnostic procedure. Refer to «DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING»(ref-646310-S28395383142014072800000) . Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) wiring and connectors. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. - CHECK THE ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER FOR AN OBSTRUCTION Turn the ignition off. Visually inspect for signs of any possible obstructions of the Active Grill Shutter. Were any problems found? Yes Repair the obstruction and retest for an active fault. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace the Active Grill Shutter Actuator. Navigate to Miscellaneous functions and perform the 'Active Grille Shutter Replaced' procedure. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - ACTIVE DTC NOTE: Loose, disconnected or damage Active Grill Shutter components are the most common cause for this DTC setting. It is important to check the physical condition and operation of all Active Grill Shutter components. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, read and record DTCs. With the scan tool, erase DTCs. Navigate to PCM System Tests and actuate the Active Grill Shutter. With the scan tool, read DTCs. Is the DTC Active or pending at this time? Yes Go To 2 No Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to «INTERMITTENT CONDITION»(ref-646316-S20980633052014072800000) .
- CHECK THE ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER OPERATION Turn the ignition off. Visually inspect the Active Grill Shutter Assembly for the items listed but, not limited to the following: Dirt, ice or obstructions that could cause the Active Grill Shutter Assembly to bind causing linkage or shutters to become disconnected. Damaged or disconnected Active Grill Shutter Actuator linkages Damaged Active Grill Shutter Assembly frame or shutters Loose or missing Active Grill Shutter Actuator mounting bolts/retainers Were any problems found? Yes Repair the item causing the failure and retest for an active fault. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 3
- CHECK THE (A708) FUSED B+ CIRCUITS AT THE ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER ACTUATOR Disconnect the Active Grill Shutter Actuator harness connector. Measure the voltage on both (A708) Fused B+ circuits at the Active Grill Shutter Actuator harness connector. Is the voltage equal to battery voltage? Yes Go To 4 No Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (Z905) GROUND CIRCUIT AT THE ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER ACTUATOR Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z905) Ground circuit at the Active Grill Shutter Actuator harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Replace the Active Grill Shutter Actuator. Navigate to Miscellaneous functions and perform the 'Active Grille Shutter Replaced' procedure. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Repair the (Z905) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE Turn the ignition off. Allow the vehicle to sit with the ignition off in an environment where the temperature is consistent and above -7°C (19.4°F) and cold soak until the engine coolant temperature is equal to ambient temperature. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, compare the EOT sensor value to the AAT, ECT and IAT sensor values. Is the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor value within 10°C (18°F) of the other sensor values? - CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (G24) ENGINE OIL TEMP SIGNAL CIRCUIT Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor harness connector. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic). Measure the resistance of the (G24) Engine Oil Temperature Signal circuit between the Engine Oil Temp Sensor harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 3 No Repair the (G24) Engine Oil Temp Signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT Measure the resistance of the (K900) Sensor ground circuit between the Engine Oil Temp Sensor harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the open or excessive resistance in the (G24) Engine Oil Temp Signal circuit. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, read the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor voltage. NOTE: The sensor voltage should be approximately 5.0 volts (plus or minus 0.1 volts) with the connector disconnected. Connect a jumper between the (G24) EOT Signal circuit and the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit at the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor harness connector. - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the EOT Sensor and Control Module connectors. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply. Were there any problems found? THROTTLE BODY INSPECTION
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With a scan tool, select View DTCs. Record the related Freeze Frame data. NOTE: Diagnose any other DTCs before continuing. NOTE: P2110 will set with P2072. P2118 may also set and the customer will experience a Limp-in condition. If either of these two faults are set, it indicates that the ice blockage software has run and no repair is necessary. NOTE: This DTC will set in extreme cold ambient temperatures when the PCM detects that the throttle plate is stuck. By the time the vehicle is serviced, the condition may be corrected.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- Check for any signs of a foreign material (ice or dirt) on the throttle plate or in the throttle bore that can cause the throttle plate to stick. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. If the throttle blade is frozen, allow the throttle body to thaw naturally in a warm location. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - EXHAUST LEAK NOTE: A thorough exhaust leak test must be completed before removing an O2 Sensor or any other part from the exhaust system. - THROTTLE PLATE INSPECTION Turn the ignition off. Remove the air cleaner assembly. - CHECK THE (K448) ETC MOTOR (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Throttle Body harness connector. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic). Using the wiring diagram as a guide, measure the resistance between the (K448) ETC Motor (+) circuit and all other 5 volt and 12 volt supply circuits at the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the (K448) ETC Motor (+) circuit for a short to the circuit that measured below 10k Ohms. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - CHECK THE (K447) ETC MOTOR (-) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Using the wiring diagram as a guide, measure the resistance between the (K447) ETC Motor (-) circuit and all other 5-volt and 12-volt supply circuits at the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms between the (K448) ETC Motor (+) circuit and all other supply circuits? Yes Go To 5 No Repair the (K447) ETC Motor (-) circuit for a short to the circuit that measured below 10k Ohms. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL MOTOR Turn the ignition on. With a scan tool, actuate the Electronic Throttle Control Motor and observe the movement of the throttle blade. - CHECK THE (K29) APP SENSOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K29) APP Sensor 2 Signal circuit in the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the (K29) APP Sensor 2 Signal circuit for a short to ground. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK FOR THE (K29) APP SENSOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUITS Measure the resistance between the (K29) APP Sensor 2 Signal circuit and the: (K400) Sensor Ground circuit in the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector. (K167) Sensor Ground circuit in the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms? Yes Go To 5 No Repair the (K29) APP Signal 2 circuit for a short to the Sensor Ground circuit that measured below 10k Ohms. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (K29) APP SENSOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic). Measure the resistance of the (K29) APP Sensor 2 Signal circuit between the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 6 No Repair the (K29) APP Sensor 2 Signal circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (K400) APP SENSOR GROUND 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE Measure the resistance of the (K400) APP Sensor Ground 2 circuit between the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 7 No Repair the (K400) APP Sensor Ground 2 circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. Connect a jumper between the (K854) 5-Volt Supply circuit and the (K29) APP Sensor 2 Signal circuit in the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, read the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor signal voltage. Is the voltage above 4.9 volts with the jumper in place? Yes Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor in accordance with the service information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 8
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Monitor the scan tool data relative to this circuit and wiggle test the wiring and connectors. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the service information. Yes Go To 3 No Repair the (K854) 5-Volt Supply circuit for a short to the circuit that measured below 10k Ohms. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - CHECK FOR THE (K29) APP SENSOR SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO ANOTHER VOLTAGE SUPPLY Measure the resistance between the (K29) APP Sensor Signal 2 circuit and all other 5 volt and 12 volt circuits at the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance above 1000 Ohms between the (K29) APP Sensor Signal 2 circuit and all other 5 volt and 12 volt circuits? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the (K29) APP Sensor Signal 2 circuit for a short to the circuit that measured below 1000 Ohms. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - CHECK THE (K400) APP SENSOR 2 GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE Measure the resistance of the (K400) APP Sensor 2 Ground circuit between the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 8 No Repair the (K400) APP Sensor 2 Ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Connect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector. Connect a jumper between the (K400) APP Sensor 2 Ground circuit and the (K29) APP Sensor Signal 2 circuit in the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, read the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor signal voltage. Is the voltage below 1.0 volt with the jumper in place? Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - THROTTLE BODY Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Throttle Body and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Inspect the Throttle Body for any condition that would result in an incorrect signal, such as damage or contamination. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Reconnect the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor harness connector. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector in line with the GPEC Adaptor still connected. Turn the ignition on. Set up a lab scope to view two graphs simultaneously. Using one channel on the lab scope, probe the (K23) APP Signal 1 circuit at the GPEC Adaptor. Using the other channel on the lab scope, probe the (K29) APP Signal 2 circuit at the GPEC Adaptor. Slowly press and release the Accelerator Pedal while monitoring the lab scope screen. Does the scope pattern show any missing or erratic signals? - ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR With a scan tool perform the ETC RELEARN function. With the scan tool, clear DTCs. Start the engine. With the scan tool, select View DTCs. Is the status Active for this DTC? Yes Replace the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. After installation is complete, perform the ETC RELEARN function. - CHECK THE ENGINE OIL Check the engine for the following: LOW ENGINE OIL INCORRECT OIL FILTER THAT DOES NOT MEET OEM SPECIFICATIONS OIL DIRTY OR DETERIORATED (Lack of scheduled oil changes) CORRECT VISCOSITY AND WEIGHT ENGINE OIL CONTAMINATED (i.e., coolant and/or fuel) NOTE: Low oil pressure can also be a cause for this DTC to set. Is oil level, type, condition, and filter correct? Yes Go To 3 No Correct level/change engine oil and filter as required, consult the service information for correct type and grade of engine oil and repeat test.
- VACUUM LEAK NOTE: This code is enabled on engines equipped with a plastic intake manifold to limit engine operation if a large vacuum leak should occur. NOTE: A large vacuum leak is the most probable cause of this DTC. Inspect the intake manifold, power brake booster, and PCV system for any vacuum leaks. Inspect the throttle plate. If the throttle blade is bent or will not close, the throttle body may need to be replaced. Inspect the MAP Sensor and Throttle Body for proper installation. Inspect the engine for any mechanical conditions that can cause low engine vacuum. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - MAP SENSOR OPERATION Start the engine. With a scan tool, monitor the MAP Sensor voltage. Snap the throttle. Does the MAP Sensor voltage vary from below 2.0 volts at idle to above 3.5 volts at wide open throttle? Yes Go To 6 No Go To 5
- MAP SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the MAP Sensor harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connector. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the MAP Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Check each of the MAP Sensor circuits for high resistance or a shorted condition. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - THROTTLE FOLLOWER TEST Ignition on, engine not running. With a scan tool, perform the Throttle Follower Test and monitor the Throttle Position Sensor 1 and Throttle Position Sensor 2 voltages. Slowly press the throttle pedal down. The voltage for Throttle Position Sensor 1 should start at approximately 0.5 volts and increase to approximately 3.3 volts. The voltage for Throttle Position Sensor 2 should start at approximately 4.4 volts and decrease to approximately 1.7 volts. Is the voltage within the range specified for each sensor? Yes Go To 8 No Go To 7
- THROTTLE BODY Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Throttle Body harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connector. - LOW ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL Ignition on, engine not running. WARNING: Allow the engine to cool before opening the cooling system. The system may be under pressure. Extreme burns or scalding may result. Failure to follow these instructions can result in possible serious or fatal injury. Inspect the cooling system for proper coolant level. Were any problems found? Yes Inspect the vehicle for a coolant leak. Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - CHECK COOLING SYSTEM OPERATION Check the overall cooling system for any problems such as poor flow due to a restrictions or possible faulty water pump operation. Refer to «DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING»(ref-646235-S37311543372014072800000) . Were any problems found? Yes Perform the appropriate repair. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 4
- THERMOSTAT Ignition on, engine not running. NOTE: Allow the engine to cool to ambient temperature before proceeding with this test. Using the appropriate service information, determine the proper opening temperature of the thermostat. With a scan tool, read the ECT Sensor value. If the engine was allowed to cool completely, the value should be approximately equal to the ambient temperature. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature while monitoring the ECT Sensor value. The sensor value change should be a smooth transition from start up to normal operating temperature. Monitor the actual coolant temperature with a thermometer. NOTE: As the engine warms up to operating temperature, the actual coolant temperature (thermometer reading) and the coolant temperature value on the scan tool should be relatively close. The thermostat should not open until the engine reaches the temperature specified in the Service Information. Does the thermostat open at the temperature specified in the Service Information? Yes Go To 5 No Replace the Thermostat in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K2) ECT SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor harness connector. Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C2 harness connector. Measure the resistance of the (K2) ECT Sensor Signal circuit between the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 6 No Repair the (K2) ECT Sensor Signal circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT Measure the resistance of the (K900) Sensor Ground 1 circuit between the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 7 No Repair the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit for an open circuit or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Turn the ignition off. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit and the (K2) ECT Sensor Signal circuit in the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, read the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor signal voltage. Is the voltage below 1.0 volt with the jumper wire in place? Yes Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 8
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Monitor the scan tool data relative to this circuit and wiggle test the wiring and connectors. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Were any problems found with the O2 Sensors? Yes Perform the appropriate repair. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 4
- MAP SENSOR OPERATION Perform the CHECKING THE MAP SENSOR OPERATION test procedure. Refer to «DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING»(ref-646310-S28395383142014072800000) . Were any problems found with the MAP Sensor? Yes Perform the appropriate repair. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 5
- ECT SENSOR OPERATION NOTE: For this test to be valid, the thermostat must be operating correctly. NOTE: This test works best if performed on a cold engine (cold soak) Ignition on, engine not running. With the scan tool, read the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor value. If the engine was allowed to sit overnight (cold soak), the temperature value should be a sensible value that is somewhere close to the ambient temperature. NOTE: If engine coolant temperature is above 82°C (180°F), allow the engine to cool until 65°C (150°F) is reached. Start the Engine. During engine warm-up, monitor the Engine Coolant Temperature value. The temp value change should be a smooth transition from start up to normal operating temp 82°C (180°F). The value should reach at least 82°C (180°F). Did the ECT value increase smoothly and reach at least 82°C (180°F)? Yes Go To 6 No Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the ECT Sensor and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor if no problems were found with the connectors. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- EVAP PURGE SOLENOID OPERATION Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the vacuum hoses at the Evap Purge Solenoid. Using a hand vacuum pump, apply 5 in. Hg. to the "ENGINE" side of the Evap Purge Solenoid. Turn the ignition on. Using the scan tool, actuate the Evap Purge Solenoid to the ON position. NOTE: The vacuum should drop when the solenoid is actuated. Does the solenoid function as described above? Yes Go To 7 No Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Solenoid and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Replace the Evap Purge Solenoid if no problems were found with the connectors. (Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-646289-S24606304222014072800000) ). Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . NOTE: Connect the vacuum hoses before continuing.

- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Sensors and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the O2 Sensor and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. Were there any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to «MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL»(ref-646224-S21304088122014072800000) . - CHECKING THE OXYGEN SENSOR 1/2 OPERATION NOTE: Check for signs of contaminants that may have damaged the O2 Sensor, such as contaminated fuel, unapproved silicone, oil and coolant. Perform the diagnostic procedure for CHECKING THE OXYGEN SENSOR OPERATION. Refer to «DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING»(ref-646310-S28395383142014072800000) . Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the 1/2 Oxygen Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Perform any technical service bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to «MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL»(ref-646224-S21304088122014072800000) . Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- DTC INFORMATION NOTE: If a pedal assembly becomes mechanically stuck the voltage output will stay fixed, if this is also Followed by a long application of the brakes this code will set. NOTE: When this code sets the pedal position in the PCM software will ramp to idle. If the Pedal voltage changes OR the brake pedal is released, the pedal position in the PCM software will ramp up to the pedal position and the ETC light will go out. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data. Diagnose all other Brake Switch and APP sensor codes before continuing. This code can be set by a driver who uses both feet while driving, one for the Accelerator Pedal and the other for the Brake Pedal. NOTE: The most likely cause of this DTC is caused by the customer Brake Torquing the engine by pressing the Accelerator pedal and then pressing the Brake Pedal. Ask the driver of the vehicle if these conditions apply to their driving habits. Are the listed conditions part of the customers driving habits? Yes Advise the customer of what caused the DTC. This is normal operation of an ETC equipped vehicle because of safety issues. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 2
- BRAKE SWITCH With the scan tool, monitor the status of brake switch 1. Pressed and release the brake pedal. NOTE: The status for each switch should change from Not Pressed to Pressed when the brake switch is pressed. Does the status change as described above? Yes Go To 3 No Check the Brake Switch for proper adjustment and installation. Check all related circuits for an open or shorted condition using the appropriate wiring diagram. If no other problems are found, replace the Brake Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR Ignition on, engine not running. With the scan tool, monitor both APP sensor voltage readings. Slowly press the accelerator pedal from idle until it reaches the end stop near the floor. The APP Sensor 1 voltage should start at approximately 0.875 Volts and increase to approximately 4.5 Volts with a smooth transition. The APP Sensor 2 voltage should start at approximately 0.45 Volts and increase to approximately 2.3 Volts with a smooth transition. Does the sensor voltage change as described above when the accelerator pedal was pressed. Yes Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to «INTERMITTENT CONDITION»(ref-646316-S20980633052014072800000) . No Check the appropriate APP Sensor circuits for an open and shorted condition. If no problems are found, replace the APP Sensor Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. After installation, with a scan tool, perform the ETC RELEARN function. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .

- CHECK THE (F343) FUSED ASD OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit in the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. Is the test light illuminated and bright? Yes Go To 3 No Repair the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (K19) COIL 1 CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit in the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit for a short to ground. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (K19) COIL 1 CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic). Measure the resistance of the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit between the Ignition Coil 1 harness connector and the GPEC Adaptor. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 5 No Repair the (K19) Coil 1 Control circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. - BATTERY Use the (special tool #GR8-1220KIT-CHRY, AGM Battery Tester/Charger Station) to load test the Battery. Did the Battery pass the test? Yes Go To 7 No Perform the appropriate repair according to the tester. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Generator and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. - PENDING TEMPERATURE SENSOR DTCS Turn the ignition on. NOTE: If any temperature sensor DTCs are present, allow the vehicle to cool completely before proceeding with this test. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. With the scan tool, select View DTCs. Are there any pending Engine Coolant Temperature sensor, Ambient Air Temperature sensor, or general temperature DTCs? Yes Diagnose and repair any temperature sensor DTCs and retest. - ACTIVE DTC Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, select View DTCs and review the DTC environmental information for this DTC. Is the good trip counter greater than 0? - LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE AT PCM NOTE: A loss of battery voltage to the module while the module is powered down is the most likely cause of this DTC. Inspect all PCM power and ground circuits. Inspect and test the battery in accordance with the Service Information. Inspect the generator drive belt for proper alignment and adjustment. Inspect the vehicle for aftermarket accessories that may exceed the generator system output. Inspect the fuses. If an open fuse is found, use the wire diagram/schematics as a guide and inspect the wiring and connectors for a damaged or shorted circuit. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 4
- (F942) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN-START) CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM harness connector. CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic). With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (F942) Fused Ignition Switch Output (Run-Start) circuit at the GPEC Adaptor. Check the circuit with the ignition switch in the OFF, ON, and START positions. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright with the ignition switch in the ON and START positions. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. Wiggle the circuit while checking with the test light to check the circuit for an intermittent problem. Does the test light illuminate as expected in each of the ignition switch positions? Yes Go To 5 No Repair the circuit as necessary. If an open fuse is found, inspect the circuit for a short to ground. Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- (A908) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (A908) Fused B+ circuit at the GPEC Adaptor. Check the circuit with the ignition switch in the OFF, ON, and START positions. NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright regardless of the position of the ignition switch. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. Wiggle the circuits while checking with the test light to check the circuit for an intermittent problem. Is the test light illuminated and bright in each of the ignition switch positions? Yes Go To 6 No Repair the circuit as necessary. Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect Powertrain Control Module power and ground circuits. - INSPECT THE ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER ASSEMBLY FOR SIGNS OF PHYSICAL DAMAGE Inspect the Active Grill Shutter Assembly and connector for damage due to road debris. Is the Active Grill Shutter Assembly or connector damaged or disconnected? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) . No Go To 3
- CHECK THE (A708) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the AGS harness connector. Measure the voltage at the (A708) Fused B+ circuit at the AGS harness connector. NOTE: The (A708) Fused B+ circuit is supplied to two terminals at the AGS Assembly. Be sure to check both circuits. Is the voltage equal to battery voltage? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the (A708) Fused B+ circuit for an open or short to ground. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (Z905) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z905) Ground circuit at the AGS harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 5 No Repair the (Z905) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (D511) LIN BUS CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the (D511) LIN BUS circuit at the AGS harness connector. Is the resistance above 10k Ohms? Yes Go To 6 No Repair the (D511) LIN BUS circuit for a short to ground. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- CHECK THE (D511) LIN BUS CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE Measure the resistance of the (D511) LIN BUS circuit between the AGS harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms? Yes Go To 7 No Repair the (D511) LIN BUS circuit for an open or high resistance. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER ASSEMBLY Replace the Active Grill Shutter Assembly in accordance with the service information. Navigate to Miscellaneous functions and perform the 'Active Grille Shutter Replaced' procedure. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, erase DTCs. With the scan tool, actuate the AGS Assembly. With the scan tool, view DTCs. Did the DTC return? Yes Go To 8 No Repair complete. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Active Grille Shutter and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes Repair as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to «POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST»(ref-646316-S05480343242014072800000) .
