Re-assembling

Sealing ring (timing side)

Place the tool [1b] on tool [1a]

Fit the new sealing ring (1) using the tool [1a]

Remove the tool [1b]

WarningDuring the rebuilding operation, oil the lip of the tool, but do not lubricate the seal outer bearing surface

Fit the sealing ring (1) against the cylinder block; using tool [1a]

Sealing ring (flywheel side)

Place the tool [2b] on tool [2a]

Fit the new sealing ring (2) using the tool [2a]

Remove the tool [2b]

WarningDuring the rebuilding operation, oil the lip of the tool, but do not lubricate the seal outer bearing surface

Fit the sealing ring (2) against the cylinder block; using tool [2a]

WarningThe screw holes must be cleaned before refitting the screws (4)

WarningClean the contact surfaces between the crankshaft and the engine flywheel

Refit

  • The flywheel (3)
  • New bolts (4) (without tightening)

Fit the tool [3]

Pre-tighten the bolts (4) to 2 ± 0,2 daNm then angular tighten by 23 ± 5 °; using tool [4]

WarningProceed bolt by bolt in the order shown

Refit (according to equipment)

  • The clutch disc; using tool [8]
  • The clutch mechanism; tightening to 2 ± 0,2 daN.m

Immobilise the camshafts by their flats; using a flat spanner (at "a")

Refit

  • Interior timing cover (9)
  • The intake camshaft pulley (8)
  • The (7) bolt; pre-tighten to 3 ± 0,5 daNm then tighten to 8,5 ± 0,5 daNm
  • The exhaust camshaft pulley (6)
  • The (5) bolt; pre-tighten to 2 ± 0,2 daNm then tighten to 11 ± 1 daNm

Refit

  • The new seal
  • The coolant pump

NoteCheck for the presence of the coolant pump positioning pins

WarningProceed bolt by bolt in the order shown

Tightening method for the screws

  • Pre-tightening to 0,8 daNm
  • Tighten to 1,4 ± 0,1 daN.m

Fit the crankshaft setting rod; using tool [5]

Peg the camshafts; using the tools [6]

Refit

  • The crankshaft pulley (14)
  • The tensioning roller (13); pre-tighten to 1,5 ± 0,1 daNm then tighten to 3,7 ± 0,4 daNm
  • The roller tensioner (16) (without tightening)

Fit the timing belt (12), strictly in the following order

  • The crankshaft pulley (14) (hold the timing belt using the tool [7])
  • The tensioning roller (13)
  • Inlet camshaft pulley (11)
  • Pulley (10) of the exhaust camshaft
  • The coolant pump (15)
  • The roller tensioner (16)

Remove the tools [5], [6], [7]

Rotate the tensioning roller (16) in the direction of the arrow "b"; overall height metal and pneumatic suspension (as "c")

Position the index "g" in position "e"; overall height metal and pneumatic suspension (as "c")

WarningThe index "g" should pass the notch "f" by an angular value of at least 10°; if not, replace the tensioning roller or both timing belt and tensioning roller

Then bring the index "g" to its setting position "f", by rotating the tensioning roller in the direction of the arrow "d"

WarningThe index "g" must not go past the slot "f"; if it does, repeat the timing belt tensioning operation

WarningThe tensioning roller must not turn while its mounting is tightened; if it does, repeat the timing belt tensioning operation

Tighten the roller tensioner (16) bolt to 2,1 ± 0,2 daN.m

WarningThe hexagonal drive of the tensioning roller must be located under the cylinder head sealing face "h"; if not, replace the tensioning roller or both timing belt and tensioning roller

Turn the crankshaft 10 turns in the normal direction of rotation

WarningNo pressure or external force should be applied to the timing belt

Pin the camshaft pulleys; using tool [6]

Check

WarningCheck the position of the index "g", it should be opposite the slot "f"; if the position of the index "g" is not correct, repeat the timing belt tensioning operations

Peg

  • The camshaft pulleys; using tool [6]
  • The crankshaft; using tool [5]

If the tool [5] can be fitted, continue the re-assembly operations

Remove the tools [5], [6]

Additional operation

Fit the tool [3]

Refit

  • The engine mounting (18)
  • The roller tensioner (19); tightening to 2 ± 0,3 daN.m
  • The lower timing cover (22)
  • The top timing cover (17)
  • The pulley (20)
  • The bolts (21); pre-tighten to 4 ± 0,4 daNm, then angular tightening 40 ± 4°

Remove the tool [3]

Refit

  • The cylinder head covers (24)
  • The screws (23), without tightening them
  • The ignition coil rail (27)
  • The bolts (26)
  • The cylinder reference sensor (25)

WarningProceed bolt by bolt in the order shown (order from 1 to 11)
