Fuel additive

Role

Role of the fuel additive

  • To lower the combustion temperature of the particles to 450°C (instead of 550°C)
  • To impregnate the particles forming in the combustion chamber
  • To propagate combustion of the particles

Description

Fuel additive EOLYS (supplier "RHODIA")

Composition

  • Cerine: 6,5% by mass (EOLYS 176)
  • Catalytic converter: brown colour
  • Solvent product (combustible hydrocarbon)

Fuel additive tank

Description

(1) fuel additive filler pipe

(2) breather pipe

(3) fuel additive pump (1283)

The quantity put in at the factory is 3,5 litres

NoteIn after-sales, you use 3 litres of fuel additive. the "fuel additive level check" procedure specifies the method for checking the level of fuel additive in the vehicle

Location

(4) fuel additive tank

(5) fuel tank

Location: under the fuel tank

Fuel additive pump (1283)

Role

The fuel additive pump delivers a precise quantity of pressurised additive to the fuel additive circuit

Description

"a" outlet to fuel additive injection valve

"b" connector

(3) fuel additive pump

The fuel additive pump is a positive displacement metering pump

The quantity of fuel additive delivered depends on the unit capacity of the fuel additive pump

The unit capacity of the fuel additive pump is 6,45 mm3

Depending on the quantity of fuel added, the engine management ECU determines the quantity of fuel additive to be injected into the fuel tank

The engine ECU controls the fuel additive pump by means of an OCR signal

NotePulse of the OCR signal = one injection of a capacity of 6,45 mm3 (OCR: opening cyclic ratio)

Fuel additive pump connector

312 Volts (power relay)
4RCO signal

The fuel additive pump (1283) is controlled by an OCR signal

Features of the OCR signal

  • Opening ratio of 34%
  • Frequency of the OCR signal 45Hz
  • Amplitude of the OCR signal 12 volts

Location

The fuel additive pump is immersed in the fuel additive tank

NoteThe fuel additive pump cannot be separated from the fuel additive tank

Valve

Role

The valve ensures that a defined quantity of additive is injected into the fuel tank

Description

Pressure of the fuel additive injection valve

  • 0,23 bar (relative pressure)
  • 1,23 bars absolute pressure

NoteThe additive injection valve is not an electrical component

Location

The additive injection valve is located on the plate of the fuel pump gauge module

Fuel tank cap presence sensor (4320)

Role

To inform the BSI1 of the opening and closing of the fuel tank cap

Role of the BSI1 as a function of the information received: to detect that fuel may be added

Description

(6) contact

(7) permanent magnet

The filler cap is fitted with a magnet and when the cap is closed, the magnet is opposite the contact

Electrical special features

Allocation of channels of connector

  • Terminal 1: 5 volts supply
  • Terminal 2: signal
  • Presence of the magnet opposite the contact: resistance = 150 000 ohms
  • Absence of the magnet opposite the contact: resistance = 15 ohms

Fuel gauge (1211)

Role

The fuel gauge informs the BSI1 of a variation in the level of fuel

The BSI1 sends the information to the engine management ECU

Role of the engine management ECU in accordance with the information received

  • To determine the quantity of fuel additive to be injected
  • To control the fuel additive pump

Check

A = height of the float pin in relation to the base plane

Fuel gauge check

Built-in systems interface (BSI1)

The BSI1 sends the following information to the engine ECU

  • Volume of fuel added
  • Counter of the volume of fuel added
  • Status of additive system (diagnosis of the additive system)

The BSI1 receives the following information from the engine management ECU

  • Minimum fuel additive level warning
  • Request for lighting of the "MIL" lamp
  • Risk of particle filter clogging

This information keeps the driver informed of the condition of the particle filter

Engine ECU

The engine management ECU manages the injection of fuel additive

The engine management ECU software incorporates

  • Management of the beginning and duration of additive injection into the fuel tank
  • Management of the total quantity of fuel additive injected since the start of the service life of the particle filter
  • Emergency strategies
  • Memorisation of faults present

The engine management ECU carries out the electric control of the fuel additive pump
