Visual/Physical Inspection

  1. Inspect for aftermarket devices which can affect the operation of the power outlets. Refer to «Checking Aftermarket Accessories»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#wiring-systems-and-power-management-diagnostic-information-and-procedures__checking-aftermarket-accessories)
  2. Inspect the accessible system components or the visible system components for obvious damage or for obvious conditions which can cause the symptom.

Intermittent

Electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Symptom List

Refer to Power Outlet Receptacle Malfunction in order to diagnose the system.

Diagnostic Instructions

Circuit/System Verification

Install a 12 V DC accessory into a X80 accessory power receptacle. Ignition ON, command the Accessory/Retained Accessory Power Relay Command ON and OFF with a scan tool. The K10 accessory relay should click and the 12 V DC accessory should have power.

Accessory Power Receptacle Center Console or Instrument Panel

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the K10 accessory relay.
  2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 86 and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the control circuit terminal 30 and ground. If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to voltage.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 85 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If all circuits test normal, replace the K9 BCM.
  5. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 87 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the control circuit terminal 30 for a short to ground.
  6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at an inoperative X80 accessory power receptacle.
  7. Test for less than 10 ohms between the X80 accessory power receptacle ground circuit terminal C and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  8. Connect the harness connector at the X80 accessory power receptacle.
  9. Connect a 20 A fused jumper wire between the K10 accessory relay B+ circuit terminal 87 and the control circuit terminal 30. Verify the 12 V DC accessory receptacle has power. If the 12 V DC does not have power, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the X80 accessory power receptacle.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the K10 accessory relay.

Accessory Power Receptacle Rear Compartment

  1. Disconnect the harness at the X80R accessory power receptacle-rear compartment.
  2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal C and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal A and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for an open/high resistance or a short to ground.
  4. If all circuits test normal, replace the X80R accessory power receptacle.

Relay Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the K10 accessory relay.
  2. Test for 60-180 ohms between terminals 85 and 86. If not within the specified range, replace the relay.
  3. Test for infinite resistance between the following terminals: 30 and 86 30 and 87 30 and 85 85 and 87 If not the specified value, replace the relay.
  4. Install a 20 A fused jumper wire between relay terminal 85 and 12 V. Install a jumper wire between relay terminal 86 and ground. Test for less than 2 ohms between terminals 30 and 87. If greater than specified range, replace the relay.

Repair Procedures

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

Special Tools

J 42059 Cigar Lighter Socket Remover. See Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the auxiliary power outlet fuse from the fuse block.
  2. Remove the receptacle: Look into the receptacle. There are two 3 mm (0.11 in) tab windows 12 mm (0.47 in) from the front of the receptacle. The J 42059 pushes the plastic latches from these tab windows and the receptacle can be pulled straight out. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) . Place one side of the "T" portion of the J 42059 into the tab window. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) . The J 42059 will not fit straight into the receptacle. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) . Angle the J 42059 slightly for insertion into the receptacle. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) . Insert the other side of the "T" into the opposite tab window. You must move the J 42059 handle toward horizontal to engage the other tab window. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) . Use the J 42059 to pull the receptacle straight out. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) .
  3. If J 42059 tool fails to release the lighter socket from the retainer, perform the following alternate method: See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) . Insert a small grinding tool with a cutoff wheel into the socket. Remove the plastic latches in the 3 mm (0.11 in) square windows. Use the J 42059 as directed above to remove the socket. See «Special Tools»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#accessory-power-socket) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Route the connector through the retainer. Align the accessory power receptacle retainer to the slot in the opening.
  2. Install the retainer by pressing into place fully seated.
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the receptacle.
  4. Align the tabs on the receptacle to the slots in the retainer. Install the accessory power receptacle by pressing into place until fully seated.
  5. Install the accessory power receptacle fuse.

12 Volt Power Outlet Receptacle Description and Operation
