Draining Procedure With Operational Fuel Pump

  1. If fuel tank is more than half full, it can tank a long time to drain. It may be faster to use «DRAINING FUEL TANK IF FUEL PUMP DOES NOT WORK»(ref-91297-S18723580882003101600000) method.
  2. Remove cover from release valve positioned on fuel rail. see scheme 49
  3. Connect Adapter (999 5484) to Fuel Draining Unit (981 2270, 981 2273 and 981 2282). see scheme 49
  4. Start engine and run until tank is empty.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS & RELEARN PROCEDURES»(ref-91297-S42660676182003101600000).
  2. Remove rear seat cushion. Remove side cushion. see scheme 50
  3. Disconnect connector at hinge. Remove hinge mounting screw. see scheme 51
  4. Remove seatbelt end screw. Release strap(s) of folding mechanism for seat belt buckle hooked into place on lower end of back rest. Lift out back rest.
  5. Fold carpet out of the way and remove insulation panel. see scheme 28 Cover vehicle floor with absorbing material.
  6. Remove covers over fuel tank units. Disconnect connectors and remove hoses from fuel tank unit. see scheme 29
  7. Open right side fuel tank unit using Fuel Tank Wrench (999 5720). see scheme 30
  8. Insert hose into fuel tank and drain contents of right side fuel tank. Remove left hand fuel tank unit (fuel level sensor) using Fuel Tank Wrench (999 5720). Drain contents of left side fuel tank.
  9. When installing right side fuel tank unit, ensure fuel line fittings are positioned correctly. see scheme 36 Check that arrow mark on cover is between mark on fuel tank. see scheme 37
  10. When installing left side fuel tank unit (fuel level sensor), use a new "O" ring. Lubricate "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Ensure arrow mark on cover aligns with mark on fuel tank. If mark is not aligned, sensor will give incorrect fuel level values. see scheme 31 Tighten fuel level sensor unit nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-91297-S02836150372001030700000).
  11. Install remaining components. Tighten seat belt mounting bolt to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-91297-S02836150372001030700000).
