Operation

The telephone is operated from the keypad beside the audio head unit or the keypad in the steering wheel. The telephone can only be switched on/off at the keypad beside the audio head unit.

Emergency calls to the emergency services can be made without the ignition key or SIM card.

The first time a SIM card is used the PIN code must be entered. The code can be stored and will not then need to be keyed in. When using several SIM cards, only one PIN code can be stored.

To make it as easy as possible to use the keypad without looking at it all the keys have individual tones when pressed (this function can be switched off via the telephone menu function).

To simplify volume settings a tone at the current setting sounds when the resetting is carried out. The tone is not heard during a call.

For safety reasons certain functions cannot be used at speeds above 8 km/h (5 mph) (can be disconnected). Unfinished functions cannot be finished.

The RTI system guides the driver to a given destination and uses and taking into account information about situations that may make the journey more difficult. The RTI system guides the driver using voice and visual signals. Depending on the function selected, the display screen can display information about the quickest route to a destination, distance, direction, junctions, road works, traffic queues, parking etc. It is possible to adapt the information displayed on the screen as required by using the on-screen menus. The RTI system is an option depending on the market. The system is also available as an accessory.

The RTI system has a new user interface.

On the condition that traffic messages are sent they are displayed with symbols on the display. Backup text information can be obtained by selecting with the RTI controls.

The RTI functions can be operated from the controls mounted on the right side of the steering wheel. There is also a remote control (optional) so that a front seat passenger can operate the RTI system.

  1. Telephone antenna mounted in front windshield
  2. Telephone keypad in the steering wheel
  3. Combined instrument panel display
  4. Keypad beside audio system head unit
  5. Handsfree microphone mounted in rear-view mirror
  6. Telephone box located on car parcel shelf
  7. Handsfree loudspeaker mounted in drivers head rest
  8. Handset in front seat armrest

As an option the car is available with a complete telephone system (handset optional). The alternative is also available for aftermarket installation. The telephone system is available for all markets which use GSM - 900MHz.

The Phone Module (PHM) with keypad is located beside the audio system head unit.

When a call is made or when using the telephones other functions the keypad in the steering wheel hub controls the telephone system. All functions except for switching on and off can be controlled by the telephone keypad on the steering wheel hub.

Information from the telephone system is displayed in the combined instrument panel display.

If the car is equipped with the telephone the storage compartment beside the audio unit is replaced by a keypad and the telephone keypad is installed in the steering wheel. The design allows after market installation.

The telephone box is installed under the parcel shelf. The telephone box is designed for the large SIM card which is inserted into the box. If the customer wishes to use the small SIM card from a mobile phone an adapter/holder should be used.

The language choice for the phone system does not affect the cars global language selection (in the central electrical module (CEM)) while a change in the global language selection controls the telephone system.

The handsfree microphone is integrated into the rear view mirror and the loudspeakers into the driver's seat head restraint. This also applies to aftermarket installation.

The telephone system is equipped with Active Sound Control (ASC) which means that the handsfree loudspeaker sound level is automatically adjusted to the car speed to compensate for noise. Active Sound Control (ASC) can be disconnected using the telephone system menu function.

The antenna is mounted against the windshield (in front of the rear view mirror).

The handset is optional (not available as single accessory). It is used for private conversations when the handsfree function is not desired.

The telephone has an power handling capacity of 8W (compared to a mobile phone approximately 2W) which gives longer range and high conversational quality.
