Explanation
Not all the parameters that are described need to be implemented in the control module. These vary from system to system.
The number of parameters can also vary between diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Frozen values are parameter values that are stored when a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored.
Engine running, status
The status displays whether the engine was running when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
No = the engine was not running
Yes = the engine was running
Passenger compartment temperature, value
Measurement range: -60-192 °C.
The climate control module (CCM) obtains the value on the control area network (CAN).
Outside temperature, value
Measurement range: -128-124 °C.
The climate control module (CCM) obtains the value on the control area network (CAN).
Battery voltage, central electronic module (CEM), value
Measurement range: 5-30 V.
Normal value when the generator (GEN) is charging: 13.0-14.5 V.
The parameter indicates the supply voltage to the central electronic module (CEM) when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
The climate control module (CCM) obtains the value on the control area network (CAN).
Distance, value
Measurement range: 0-1,000,000 km.
The parameter indicates the mileage when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
The climate control module (CCM) obtains the value on the control area network (CAN).
Incorrect car configuration parameter, value
The parameter indicates which parameter in the car configuration data is incorrect.
The climate control module (CCM) obtains the value from the central electronic module (CEM) on the Control area network (CAN).
Evaporator temperature, value
Measurement range -100- 100 °C.
If the air conditioning (A/C) has not been activated and the engine has cooled, the value must correspond to the ambient temperature.
The climate control module (CCM) obtains the value from the evaporator temperature sensor.
Passenger compartment temperature sensor
Measurement range -40- 90 °C.
The value must correspond to the ambient temperature.
The parameter indicates the value from the passenger compartment temperature sensor.
Status of the keypad
The parameter indicates whether the climate control module (CCM) detects that buttons on the keypad were pressed or not when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
Not pressed = the button is not pressed in
Pressed = the button is pressed in
Status of LEDs
The parameter indicates whether the climate control module (CCM) recognizes that the LEDs for buttons on the keypad should be lit or not when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
Not lit = the LED must not be lit
Lit = the LED must be lit
Status, seat heater right front
The parameter indicates the status of the seat heating module (SHM) right front when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
The climate control module (CCM) receives the information via LIN communication.
OK, heating off = seat heating module (SHM) functioning, heating off.
OK, heating on = seat heating module (SHM) functioning, heating on.
Incorrect status 1 = incorrect heater pad.
Incorrect status 2 = incorrect temperature sensor.
Incorrect status 3 = seat heating module (SHM) overheated.

Status, seat heater left front
The parameter indicates the status of the seat heating module (SHM) left front when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.

Incorrect status 1 = incorrect heater pad.

Desired temperature left seat heater, value
Measurement range 0-60 °C.
The parameter indicates the value of the desired seat temperature that the climate control module (CCM) transmits to the seat heating module (SHM).
The climate control module (CCM) calculates the value based on activation of the seat heater button.
Desired temperature right seat heater, value
Measurement range 0-60 °C.
The parameter indicates the value of the desired seat temperature that the climate control module (CCM) transmits to the seat heating module (SHM).
The climate control module (CCM) calculates the value based on activation of the seat heater button.
AQS signal, status
The parameter displays the signal from the air quality sensor (AQS) when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The climate control module (CCM) uses the signal to regulate the damper motor module (DMM) recirculation.
Off = no increase or reduction in pollutant level.
Level 1 = slow increase in pollutant level.
Level 2 = medium increase in pollutant level.
Level 3 = rapid increase in pollutant level.
Air quality sensor (AQS), status
The parameter displays the status of the air quality sensor (AQS) when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
Warm-up phase = the sensor is being heated by the heater element.
Faulty heater pad.
Faulty sensor.
Calibration commenced.
Fault information, status
The parameter indicates the status of the damper motor module (DMM) when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
The climate control module (CCM) receives the information via LIN communication.
Faulty status 1 = faulty Hall sensor in the damper motor.
Faulty status 2 = fault when storing the position of the damper motor.
Incorrect status 3 = unexpected stop when operating the damper motor.
Faulty status 4 = over voltage or overheating in the damper motor.
Faulty status 5 = communication fault in the LIN bus.
Faulty status 6 = hardware fault in the driver circuit.
Faulty status 7 = hardware fault in the driver circuit.
Faulty status 8 = voltage drop in the damper motor.
Control modules on LIN bus 1, status
The parameter indicates which control modules the climate control module (CCM) detects as being installed on LIN bus 1.
Not installed = the climate control module (CCM) cannot communicate with the control module.
Installed = the climate control module (CCM) is able to communicate with the control module.
Control modules on LIN bus 2, status
The parameter indicates which control modules the climate control module (CCM) detects as being installed on LIN bus 2.
Not installed = the climate control module (CCM) cannot communicate with the control module.
Installed = the climate control module (CCM) is able to communicate with the control module.
Configured control modules for LIN bus 1, status
The parameter indicates which control modules are configured to be present on LIN bus 1.
Should not exist = the control module must not be on LIN bus 1.
Should exist = the control module must be on LIN bus 1.
Configured control modules for LIN bus 2, status
The parameter indicates which control modules are configured to be present on LIN bus 2.
Should not exist = the control module must not be on LIN bus 2.
Should exist = the control module must be on LIN bus 2.
Power supply, value
The parameter indicates the power supply to the climate control module (CCM) when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
Measurement range 0-50 V.
Normal value approximately 12 V (battery voltage).

Time, value
The value displays the time that has passed since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored.
Parameters, status
Certain values deviate from those contained in the signal specifications, see Signal description. Transmission control module (TCM) . This is because read off values are calculated and filtered by the control module. In certain cases the engine must be running to obtain the relevant values.
Gear-shift position sensor position
P/R/N/D/4/3/L = normal gear positions.
OR/OD/OL = Undefined R, D or L positions. The signals from the gear-shift position sensor are outside the normal range but this not interpreted as a fault. This may be because the gear selector is between positions or that the gear-shift position sensor is incorrectly adjusted.
FAULT = the gear-shift position sensor has transmitted the wrong combination of signals and a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been stored.

LOW = The signal is grounded in the gear-shift position sensor
HIGH = The signal is not grounded in the gear-shift position sensor
Position P: Signal A = LOW

The value indicates whether the quick shift mode is selected or not.

The value indicates the quick shift mode which the gear selector module transmits to the transmission control module (TCM).
No shift = no quick shift function

This value indicates the shifting program selected by the control module based on the signal from the gear selector.
Normal = P/R/N/D

Winter mode status
This value indicates the shifting program selected by the control module based on the signal from the mode selector. W = Winter mode.

Lock Up pressure switch
Applies only to 4T65EV-GT.
The pressure switch is affected by the transmission line pressure. The control module uses the signal from the pressure switch to check whether the lock up solenoid is activated when the control module has requested lock up.
OFF = No lock up activated
ON = Lock Up activated
Stop (brake) lamp switch
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal on the Control area network (CAN) indicating whether the stop (brake) lamp switch is activated or not. The transmission control module (TCM) uses the signal to disconnect the lock up function when braking in order to avoid jolts in the transmission.
OFF = Stop (brake) lamp switch unaffected
ON = Stop (brake) lamp switch affected
Kickdown
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal indicating the accelerator pedal (AP) position. During rapid acceleration, with the accelerator pedal (AP) depressed to approximately 87 %, the transmission control module (TCM) receives a signal about kickdown.
OFF = Kickdown is not activated
ON = Kickdown is activated
Engine speed (RPM)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits the engine speed (RPM) on the Control area network (CAN) from which the transmission control module (TCM) retrieves the signal which it then compares with its own speed sensor signal.
Measurement range: 0 - 8191 RPM
Idling speed: 850 RPM
Transmission speed sensor, input speed
The speed can be generated with the engine idling and the gear selector in P/N position. If the gear selector is in any other position, a gear is engaged and the transmission input shaft is connected to the output shaft and an RPM will not be indicated until the car is driven. Depending on slippage in the torque converter the transmission speed and the engine speed will differ when the lock up function is not engaged. With lock up engaged the transmission speed should be the same as engine speed (RPM).
Measurement range (RPM): 0
Peak = 14 mA
Trough = 7 mA
TCM speed sensor, calculated speed
The control module receives a signal from the transmission speed sensor which is affected by a toothed pulse wheel and calculates the vehicle speed based on the signal. The speed sensor is an "active" sensor, magnet resistive with a current activated interface. The speed is directly proportional to the frequency.
Measurement range: 0 km/h - top speed
Peak = 14 mA
Trough = 7 mA
Vehicle speed ABS
The ABS control module transmits a signal indicating the vehicle speed on the Control area network (CAN) from where the transmission control module retrieves the signal. The transmission control module (TCM) compares it with the signal from the transmission speed sensor.
Measurement range: 0 km/h - top speed
Peak = 14 mA
Trough = 7 mA
Throttle, position
The engine control module (ECM) transmits the accelerator pedal (AP) position on the Control area network (CAN) from where the transmission control module (TCM) retrieves the signal. The signal is used by the transmission to activate the kickdown function.
Measurement range: 0 - 100 %
>87 % = kickdown
Calculated battery voltage
The value indicates the calculated battery voltage at the control module.
Measurement range: 0.0 -25.5 V
Battery voltage
The value indicates battery voltage at the control module.
Measurement range: 0.0 -25.5 V
Oil temperature sensor signal
The value indicates the oil temperature sensor signal. Voltage decreases with increased sensor temperature.
Measurement range: 0.0 - 5.0 V

Cold transmission (+20°C): approximately 2.4 V
Hot transmission (+100°C): 0.3 -0.5 V

Oil temperature
The transmission control module (TCM) calculates the temperature from the oil temperature sensor signal.
Measurement range: -60 - +180°C
Line pressure solenoid STH amperage
The value indicates the amperage passing through the solenoid circuit. A lower amperage gives a higher reference pressure, which gives a higher line pressure. Solenoid control is directly dependent on the throttle sensor signal. The higher the signal from the throttle sensor the lower the amperage through the solenoid and therefore the higher the line pressure.
Measurement range: 0.0 -1.5 A
Normal value at closed throttle: 280 mA
Line pressure solenoid STH control
Line pressure solenoid STH controls the reference pressure for the transmission. The reference pressure in turn controls the system pressure in the transmission so that the system pressure in gear D varies between 0.28 - 1.2 MPa (R position: 0.5 - 1.8 MPa). Solenoid control is directly dependent on the signal from the throttle position (TP) sensor. The higher the signal from the throttle position (TP) sensor the greater the reference pressure and therefore line pressure.
Measurement range: 0 - 100 %
0 % control, minimal reference pressure, gives lowest line pressure.
100 % control, maximum reference pressure, gives highest line pressure.
Lock Up solenoid SL, amperage
The value indicates the amperage through the solenoid circuit. Control of the solenoid circuit depends on
- The gear position selected
- Vehicle speed
- The transmission speed - from the transmission speed sensor
- The engine speed (RPM) and load - from the fuel injection system control module
- Throttle opening
- If the brake pedal is depressed - from the stop (brake) lamp switch
- Transmission temperature
Engine control module (ECM) engine coolant temperature (ECT)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits a signal indicating the engine coolant temperature (ECT) on the Control area network (CAN). The automatic transmission uses the signal to govern lock up.
Measurement range: -60 - +195°C
Text transmitted to the driver information module
In the event of a service reminder indicator fault, the transmission control module (TCM) transmits a message to the driver information module. The text is displayed in the combined instrument panel display.
1 = TRANSMISSION SERVICE URGENT
2 = TRANSMISSION SERVICE REQUIRED
3 = TRANSMISSION FIX NEXT SERVICE
4 = TRANSMISSION OIL TEMP HIGH

Reading off input and output signals
This function can be used to continuously read off the values and status of the rear electronic module (REM) input and output signals.
The following parameters can be read off
- status of the locking relay and unlocking relay for the left rear door
- status of the locking relay and unlocking relay for the right rear door
- status of the relay for the rear folding head restraint
- the status of the trunk lid pop-up relay (4 doors)
- status of the locking relay and unlocking relay for the fuel tank filler cover
- status of the rear fog lamp relay
- status of the rear fog lamp relay, German version and trailer
- status of the back-up lamp relay
- status of the rear windshield heating relay
- power supply from the rear electronic module (REM)
- fuel level, left and right tank halves
- lamp fault. Indicates whether any bulb has blown. Parking lamp groups 1 and 2, cover the left and right rear parking lamps. NOTE: On early S80 models parking lamp groups 1 and 2 correspond to the inner and outer lamps.
- the power supply to the inclination sensor module (ISM) (low, high). High when the car is alarmed, otherwise low
- Inclination sensor module (ISM), alarm status. Indicates whether the inclination sensor module (ISM) has deployed the alarm
- Inclination sensor module (ISM), x/y status. Indicates whether the inclination sensor module (ISM) has deployed first in the X or Y axis
- the status of the trunk lid handle, (pop up, no action) (4 doors)
- current, lamp fault rear fog lamp. The rear electronic module (REM) detects lamp faults when the current is below 1.5A
- Central electronic module (CEM) driver brake (off, on). Checks the input signal from the stop lamp driver from the central electronic module (CEM) to the rear electronic module (REM)
- stop lamp check (lamp on, lamp off). Checks whether the rear electronic module (REM) transmits a signal to activate the stop lamp relay
- current, lamp fault, stop lamp. The rear electronic module (REM) detects lamp faults when the current is below 3.0 A
- status of back-up gear (idle, engaged)
- status relay 15I in the power supply
- cargo compartment lighting output signal (0W - 10W)
- position sensor input signal for the headlamp beam height control (1.7V -3.2V)
- calibration status of the position sensor for headlamp beam height control
- status seat belt reminder passenger (off/on)
- input signal anode/cathode for seat belt reminder.
Activating components and functions
This function can be used to activate components and functions which affect the outputs on the rear electronic module (REM).
The following components can be activated
- activation of relay, simultaneous rear locking (rear doors and filler cap).
- activating the relay, left rear door locking
- activating the relay, left rear door unlocking
- activating the relay, deadlock for the rear doors
- activating the relay, right rear door locking

Reading off static data
With this function programmed data can be read off. For the rear electronic module (REM), this indicates primarily which relays should be installed.

- calibration status of the position sensor for headlamp beam height control Engaged = The gear selector lever is in the back-up (R) position Disengaged = The gear selector lever is not in the back-up (R) position.
- status seat belt reminder passenger (off/on) Engaged = The gear selector lever is in the back-up (R) position Disengaged = The gear selector lever is not in the back-up (R) position.
- input signal anode/cathode for seat belt reminder. Engaged = The gear selector lever is in the back-up (R) position Disengaged = The gear selector lever is not in the back-up (R) position.
- Back-up (reverse) gear status. The parameter indicates whether the rear electronic module (REM) receives a signal indicating that the gear selector lever is in the back-up (R) position Engaged = The gear selector lever is in the back-up (R) position Disengaged = The gear selector lever is not in the back-up (R) position.
- Status, parking assistance rear. The parameter indicates whether the rear electronic module (REM) detects that the rear parking assistance system is active or not On = The rear parking assistance system is active Off = The rear parking assistance system is not active.
- Status, Distance behind. The parameter indicates the distance to a detectable object. The value of the parameter is transmitted by the rear electronic module (REM) on the controller area network (CAN). The distance is presented as a digit between 1 and 32 1 = the distance from the rear bumper to the detectable object is approximately 1.5 m or greater 2 to 31 = the distance to the detectable object is between approximately 1.5 m and approximately 0.3 m 32 = the distance from the rear bumper to the detectable object is approximately 0.3 m or less.
- Status, back-up warning sensor 1-4. The parameter indicates whether the rear electronic module (REM) receives a status signal form the parking assistance module (PAM). This signal indicates whether there is a fault in the sensors or there terminals Faulty = there is a fault in the back-up warning sensor or its terminals OK = there is no fault in the back-up warning sensor or its terminals.
This function can be used to activate components and functions which affect the outputs on the rear electronic module (REM).
