Removal

WARNINGThe supplemental restraint system (SRS) is active for a certain length of time after the power supply has been disconnected. Wait for a minimum of 3 minutes before disconnecting or removing any SRS components.

WARNINGWhen switching the ignition on first time after a battery disconnect and connect, stand outside the vehicle and reach into the vehicle keeping clear of the air bags operating areas.

Set the clock.

Replacement of cable terminal in socket housing

Note. For equivalent pin housing, see Example 2B .

Scheme 1358: Separate the connector pin and socket housings

If the connector is intact then first remove the socket housing (female) from the pin housing (male). See illustration.

  1. Undo the locking screw. (Some connectors have no locking screw).
  2. Turn the connector housing retaining ring (outer ring) counterclockwise .
  3. Separate the two halves of the connector.

Scheme 1359: Extract socket housing

Extract socket housing from the connector housing as follows

  1. Remove retaining ring from the connector by inserting a small screwdriver from the rear of the ring and pry open the 3 catches.
  2. Pull back rubber seal on the cables.

  1. Open the socket housing secondary locking by turning the two rings shown in the illustration. A "click" indicates that the secondary locking has disengaged.

Scheme 1361: Extract the cable terminal

No terminal removal tool is required.

  1. Extract the cable terminal from the rear of the housing by tugging on the cable.

Replacement of cable terminals in pin housing

Note. For equivalent socket housing, see Example 2A .

Scheme 1362: Separate the pin and socket housings of the connector

If the connector is intact

  1. First disconnect the socket housing from the pin housing as in «Separate the connector pin and socket housings»(ref-461676-S37830255552012040200000) .

  1. Turn the retaining ring on the connector counterclockwise until a "click" indicates it has disengaged.
  2. Remove the retaining ring and pull back on the cables.
  3. Release the two catches on the sides using a narrow screwdriver.
  4. Withdraw the inner tube and pull back on the cables.

  1. First remove the pin housing from the outer shell.
  2. Open the pin housing secondary locking by turning the two rings as shown. A "click" indicates that the secondary locking has disengaged.

  1. Extract the cable terminal from the rear of the housing by pulling on the cable.
