Electrical System - General Information: Overhaul Volvo S80 I

Assembly

Note. Wheel sensor cables are twisted pair (positive and negative signal) cables for each wheel. It is important that paired cables are twinned in the same way when they are reinstalled in the connector. The cables must be twisted approximately 3 times per 100mm.

Assembling primary lock

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the cable terminal is properly locked by pulling carefully on the cable.

Assembling secondary lock

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the seal is correctly positioned and the cable terminal has locked by carefully pulling the cable.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the seal is correctly positioned and the cable terminal has locked by carefully pulling the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the seal is correctly positioned and the cable terminal has locked by carefully pulling the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal's catches are undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the cable terminal is properly locked by pulling carefully on the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Disassembling secondary lock

Release the front housing section on the pin housing by pulling out the rear catches while at the same time pressing the housing section forwards.

Release the catches and pull out the secondary lock. Use tool: 9512853 or an electrician's screwdriver, see the illustration.

Use tool: 9512632 , 9512633 and 9512639 to remove the primary lock, as graphics.

Note. Tool 9512852 can only be used for socket housings.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the cable terminal is properly locked by pulling carefully on the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the cable terminal is properly locked by pulling carefully on the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the cable terminal is properly locked by pulling carefully on the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Check that the cable terminal is properly locked by pulling carefully on the cable.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Check that the cable terminal is undamaged.

Press the cable terminal into the housing.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Slide the housings into the connector.

Press the secondary lock into place.

Reassemble the connector

  1. Replace the connector cover. Check that the catches (3 catches) engage.
  2. Replace gasket seal (only for socket housings).
  3. Push on rubber seal over housing
  1. Push the rubber seal on to the socket housing.
  2. Replace the retaining ring on the socket housing.
  1. Insert the pin housing in the outer shell. The tab slot should be lined up with the guide groove.
  2. Insert the inner tube in the outer shell. Line up the slot with the guide groove. Press the inner tube firmly in so the catches engage in the correct position.
  1. Reinstall the retainer ring on the pin housing and turn the ring clockwise until the catch engages.
  1. Replace the connector cover by depressing the locking catches (one on each side).

Check that the catches have engaged properly.

  1. Push rubber seal into place.
