Draining the gas pipe (CNG; 2005-2006)
Note. The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
| WARNING | Take care when working with gas, there is a risk of explosion. |
| CAUTION | Before any work with the gas installation, the gas pipe must be emptied. The negative battery cable must then be disconnected. See Battery, disconnecting . See also Safety precautions . |
Scheme 418
Remove the privacy panel below the dashboard.
Start the engine and make sure that it runs on gas.
Remove the fuse from position 16.
The engine will stop after approx. one minute.
Scheme 419
Close the engine gas valve on the rear gas tank.
Scheme 420
Close the valves (1) on the two front gas tanks.
Scheme 421
Remove the fuse. See Removing the fuse .
Close the valves of the rear tank. See Closing the rear gas tank valve . Close the valves of the front tanks. See Closing the front gas tank valve .
| CAUTION | Remove the connection outdoors. |
Detach the regulator connection just enough that any gas starts to hiss out.

Note. The relevant section of the system must always be drained when working on the gas installation. See Gas pipe, draining . Also see Safety precautions .
Scheme 423
- Drain the gas pipe. See «Gas pipe, draining»(ref-445807-S01947311132012010600000)
- Raise the car
- Remove the guard for the rear gas tank
- Close the valve for the engine gas pipe using an Allen key
- Lower the car
- Open the pipe coupling under the floor
- Connect the drain pipe to the line from the gas tank. Use connection thread 7/16"-20 UNF
- Open the solenoid valve for gas draining
- Connect the 12 V power supply to the solenoid valve
- Carefully open the manual valve for the engine gas pipe.
Note. The valve must only be opened enough to release the maximum equivalent of 3 times the amount of gas that the engine requires under full load. Otherwise the pipe break valve closes.
If the pipe break valve closes the gas flow, close the manual valve for the engine gas pipe and open again.
Alternative 1: Lead off the gas to a burner which is set up securely.
Alternative 2: Lead off the gas to a compressor with a storage tank.
Draining the front gas tank
- Raise the car
- Power up the valve on the front gas tank
- Drain the tank. See «Draining the rear gas tank if the solenoid valve is OK»(ref-445828-S05616496262012010600000) .
When the tank is drained, disconnect the power supply to the valve.
Alternative 1: Lead off the gas to a burner which is set up securely.
Alternative 2: Lead off the gas to a compressor with a storage tank.
Note. Follow any relevant national statutory requirements.
| CAUTION | The tank always contains a small amount of gas after drainage. |
Scheme 424
Drain the line.
Raise the car.
Remove the guard for the rear gas tank.
Unscrew the valve for the engine gas pipe.
Check that valve 9995701 is closed.
Note. Tighten counter-clockwise using an Allen key to stop
Install valve 9995701 .
Open the pipe coupling before the engine compartment. Connect the drainage line to the nipple. (Connection thread: 7/16"-20 UNF )
Alternative 1: Lead off the gas to a burner which is set up securely.
Alternative 2: Lead off the gas to a compressor with a storage tank.
Note. Follow any relevant national statutory requirements.
Open valve 9995701 using an Allen key. Tighten clockwise.
When the tank is drained, shut the valve. Use an Allen key. Tighten counter-clockwise.
Install the original valve.
Note. Always use new gaskets.
| CAUTION | The tank always contains a small amount of gas after drainage. |
