- Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See «BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-63535-S26517940312001020900000) . If DTC P0464 is only DTC set, go to next step. If DTC P0462 or P0463 also exist, diagnose and repair those codes first.
- Remove fuel pump assembly from fuel tank. While moving fuel level sensor float up and down, measure resistance across terminals No. 3 and No. 6 of fuel level sensor. If resistance changes smoothly, go to next step. If resistance does not change smoothly, replace fuel level sensor.
- Remove fuel sub level sensor from fuel tank. While moving fuel sub level sensor float up and down, measure resistance across terminals No. 1 and No. 2 of fuel sub level sensor. If resistance changes smoothly, repair poor terminal contact in connectors between ECM and instrument cluster. If resistance does not change smoothly, replace fuel sub level sensor. - Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See «BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-63535-S26517940312001020900000). Turn ignition off. Connect test mode connector. see scheme 2 Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command cooling fan relay on and off. Using a DVOM connected to ground, backprobe ECM connector B137 (31-pin connector) terminal No. 28 while commanding cooling fan on and off. see scheme 4 If voltage does not change between zero and 10 volts while commanding cooling fan on and off, go to next step. If voltage does change between zero and 10 volts while commanding cooling fan on and off, repair poor terminal contact at ECM connector.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector B137 (31-pin connector). Using an ohmmeter connected to ground, measure resistance at ECM connector B137 (31-pin connector) terminals No. 17 and No. 28. If resistance is less than 10 ohms at both test points, locate and repair short to ground in radiator fan relay No. 1 control circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If resistance is not less than 10 ohms at both test points, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove main fan relays from A/C relay holder, located in engine compartment near left shock tower. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and A/C relay holder cavities No. 5 and No. 19. (Scheme 74) If voltage is more than 10 volts at both test points, go to next step. If voltage is not more than 10 volts at either test point, locate and repair open circuit in wiring between ignition switch and A/C relay holder.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between A/C relay holder cavities No. 5 and No. 6, and cavities No. 19 and No. 20. If resistance is not between 87 and 107 ohms at both test points, replace main fan relays. If resistance is between 87 and 107 ohms at both test points, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of wiring between ECM connector B137 (31-pin connector) terminal No. 17 and A/C relay holder cavity No. 20, and between ECM connector B137 (31-pin connector) terminal No. 28 and A/C relay holder cavity No. 6. If resistance is less than one ohm at both test points, go to next step. If resistance is not less than one ohm at both test points, locate and repair open in wiring and check for poor terminal contact in connectors between ECM and main fan relay.
- Check for poor contact at ECM and/or main fan relay connectors. If connections are not okay, repair poor contact in connector. If connections are okay, contact authorized Subaru dealership.
