DTC P0181: FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE PROBLEM Subaru Outback BH

Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC P0182 and/or P0183 exist, diagnose and repair affected DTC first. Do not diagnose DTC P0181. If DTC P0181 is only DTC set, replace fuel temperature sensor. Clear memory and perform verification procedure. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES and VERIFICATION PROCEDURE .

Scheme 64

1. Perform basic diagnostic procedure. See «BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE»(ref-63535-S26517940312001020900000) . Start engine. Using scan tool, observe fuel temperature sensor signal. If display value is more than 248°F (120°C), go to next step. If display value is not more than 248°F (120°C), system has returned to normal. Check for poor connections or intermittent open in wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
2. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel pump access cover located in right rear of luggage compartment floor. Disconnect Gray 6-pin fuel pump connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe fuel temperature sensor signal. If signal is less than -40°F (-40°C), replace fuel temperature sensor. If signal is not less than -40°F (-40°C), locate and repair short to ground in wiring between fuel pump and ECM. Clear memory and perform verification procedure.
