REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy. |
- Remove weatherstrip and cowl net. Apply silicone oil or soapy water to both sides of cowl net to facilitate removal. Disconnect electrical connector. Remove motor mounting bolts. (Scheme 3)
- Remove nut securing motor link on back side of motor and remove motor. Remove nuts securing left sleeve unit. Separate left and right wiper links at center joint. (Scheme 4)
- Remove nuts securing right sleeve unit. Remove wiper link from service hole in front panel. To make removal of wiper link easier, pry link with a screwdriver inserted into service hole in front panel.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. To assemble wiper links, push links in using grip of screwdriver.

- Remove cap and nut from rear wiper arm. Remove rear wiper arm and blade. Remove rear liftgate inside trim. Unfasten clips securing harness.
- Disconnect wiper motor harness connector. Separate washer hoses at joint, if necessary. Remove attaching screws. Remove wiper motor assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure.
On Impreza, remove right inside wheelwell trim cover that houses right taillight. On Legacy & Outback, remove right inside wheelwell trim cover that houses right rear speaker. On all models, disconnect relay harness connector. Remove screws securing relay. Remove relay. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove washer tank attaching bolts. Pull washer tank far enough to disconnect wiring harness connector and washer hose. Remove washer tank. To install, reverse removal procedure.
- Remove steering wheel using steering wheel puller. Remove lower steering column cover. Remove bracket cover. Disconnect harness connectors.
- Unfasten hold-down band. Remove combination switch from steering column. Remove slip ring from combination switch. Remove wiper/washer switch assembly from combination switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
