DTC P1540 (VSP_S): VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTION 2 Subaru Forester SF

  1. Check speedometer operation. If speedometer operation is abnormal, check power supply and ground circuit to instrument cluster and connector between instrument cluster and vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Repair or replace parts as necessary. If speedometer operation is normal, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM connector. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter connected to ground, backprobe PCM harness connector terminal No. 83 (Green/Black wire). If voltage reading is more than 2 volts, check for an open in harness between PCM and instrument cluster connector or for poor contact at instrument cluster or PCM connectors. If voltage reading is 2 volts or less, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of harness between ground and PCM connector terminal No. 83 (Green/Black wire). If resistance is 10 ohms or less, repair short to ground in harness. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair poor contact at PCM.
