DTC P0403 (ERGSOL): EGR CIRCUIT LOW INPUT Subaru Forester SF

  1. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter connected to ground, backprobe PCM connector terminal No. 71 (Green wire on Forester and Impreza, or Black/Pink wire on Legacy). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 3).
  2. Turn ignition off. Check for an intermittent problem, as system is normal at this time. Check for poor contact at PCM or EGR solenoid valve connectors.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR solenoid valve. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between EGR solenoid valve connector terminal No. 2 (Green/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 10 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, check for short in harness between PCM and EGR solenoid valve connectors.
  4. Disconnect PCM connector. Check resistance of wiring between PCM connector terminal No. 71 (Green wire) and EGR solenoid valve connector terminal No. 2 (Green/Black wire on Forester and Impreza, or Black/Pink wire on Legacy). If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, check for an open in harness between PCM and EGR solenoid valve connector. If okay, check for poor contact at PCM or EGR solenoid valve connectors.
  5. Check resistance between EGR solenoid valve terminals. If resistance is 10-100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 or more than 100 ohms, replace EGR solenoid valve.
  6. Reconnect PCM connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between EGR solenoid valve connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire) and ground. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit in wiring between main relay and EGR solenoid valve connector. If voltage reading is more than 10 volts, check connection at EGR solenoid valve connector.
