DTC P0183 (TNKT_HI): FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT Subaru Forester SF

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Start engine. Observe fuel temperature sensor signal. If displayed value is less than -40°F (-40°C), go to next step. If displayed value is more than -40°F (-40°C), check for poor contact in PCM or fuel pump connectors or for an open in wiring of fuel pump circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section. Repair as necessary and retest system.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel pump access cover, located in right rear of trunk floor (Sedan), or luggage compartment floor (Forester and Wagon). Disconnect 6-pin fuel pump connector. Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure voltage at fuel pump connector terminal No. 6 (Blue/Black wire on Forester and Impreza, or Red/Blue wire or Legacy). If voltage reading is 10 volts or less, leave voltmeter connected and go to next step. If voltage reading is more than 10 volts, check for short circuit in wiring between fuel pump and PCM connectors.
  3. Turn ignition on and recheck voltage. If voltage reading is 4 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage reading is 4-10 volts, go to step 5). If voltage reading is more than 10 volts, check for short circuit in wiring between fuel pump and PCM connectors.
  4. Check for an open in wiring between fuel pump connector and PCM, or for poor contact at fuel pump or PCM connectors.
  5. Turn ignition off. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and fuel pump connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire on Forester and Impreza, or Black/Red wire on Legacy). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace fuel temperature sensor. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check for an open in wiring between fuel pump connector and PCM, or for poor contact at fuel pump or PCM connectors. Check for faulty ground circuit to fuel pump connector.
