Note. On M/T vehicles, perform test with clutch depressed. On A/T vehicles, perform test in Park and Neutral.
If starter operates with ignition in start, check for an open or short circuit in wiring to PCM, or a poor connection at PCM connector terminal No. 86 (White/Red wire on Forester and Impreza), or (Red/Yellow wire on Legacy). If starter does not operate with ignition in start, check starter motor circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
