INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION WIRE Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it into the transmission wire. Pass the transmission wire through the transaxle case. Install the transmission wire with the bolt. Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) Coat the O-ring on the ATF temperature sensor with ATF. Install the ATF temperature sensor with the lock plate and bolt. Torque: 6.6 N*m (67 kgf*cm, 58 in.*lbf) Connect the 5 shift solenoid valve connectors.
  2. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY Install the 2 oil cleaner magnets onto the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly, as shown in the illustration. Install the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly and a new oil pan gasket with the 18 bolts. Torque: 7.8 N*m (80 kgf*cm, 69 in.*lbf)
  3. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID Fluid type Toyota Genuine ATF WS
  4. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID See step 1
  5. INSPECT FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID LEAK
  6. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

  1. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
  2. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID See step 9
  3. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY See step 3
  4. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY Remove the 3 bolts and remove the valve body oil strainer assembly. NOTE: Perform the operation carefully as some fluid will come out from the oil strainer. Remove the O-ring from the valve body oil strainer assembly.
  5. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION WIRE Disconnect the 5 shift solenoid valve connectors. Remove the bolt and lock plate and separate the ATF temperature sensor.
  6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY Support the valve body assembly and remove the 17 bolts and the transmission valve body assembly. NOTE: Be careful not to drop the check ball body, spring and accumulator piston.

  1. REMOVE MANUAL VALVE Remove the manual valve from the transmission valve body assembly.
  2. REMOVE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL1 Remove the bolt and No. 1 solenoid lock plate from the transmission valve body assembly. Pull out the shift solenoid valve SL1 from the transmission valve body assembly.
  3. REMOVE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL2 Remove the bolt and No. 2 solenoid lock plate from the transmission valve body assembly. Pull out the shift solenoid valve SL2 from the transmission valve body assembly.
  4. REMOVE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT Remove the bolt and No. 3 solenoid lock plate from the transmission valve body assembly. Pull out the shift solenoid valve SLT from the transmission valve body assembly.
  5. REMOVE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE DSL Remove the bolt and pull out shift solenoid valve DSL from the transmission valve body assembly.
  6. REMOVE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE S4 Remove the bolt and pull out shift solenoid valve S4 from the transmission valve body assembly.

  1. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL1 Measure the resistance. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 ohms Connect the positive (+) battery lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and the negative (-) battery lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector, and check the operation of the valve. NOTE: While using the battery during the inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur. OK The solenoid makes an operating sound. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the shift solenoid valve SL1.
  2. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL2 Measure the resistance. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 ohms Connect the positive (+) battery lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and the negative (-) battery lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector, and check the operation of the valve. NOTE: While using the battery during the inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur. OK The solenoid makes an operating sound. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the shift solenoid valve SL2.
  3. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT Measure the resistance. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 ohms Connect the positive (+) battery lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and the negative (-) battery lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector, and check the operation of the valve. OK The solenoid makes an operating sound. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the shift solenoid valve SLT.
  4. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE DSL Measure the resistance. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Solenoid Connector (DSL) - Solenoid Body (DSL) 20°C (68°F) 11 to 13 ohms Connect the positive (+) battery lead to the terminal of the solenoid connector, and the negative (-) battery lead to the solenoid body, and check the operation of the valve. NOTE: While using the battery during the inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur. OK The solenoid makes an operating sound. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the shift solenoid valve DSL.
  5. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE S4 Measure the resistance. Standard resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Solenoid Connector (S4) - Solenoid Body (S4) 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 ohms Connect the positive (+) battery lead to the terminal of the solenoid connector, and the negative (-) battery lead to the solenoid body, and check the operation of the valve. NOTE: While using the battery during the inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur. OK The solenoid makes an operating sound. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the shift solenoid valve S4.
