  1. Battery voltage between 9 and 16 V.
  2. A DTC can only be set when the steering column lock control module is awake.

B144C 01

The steering column lock control module detects a short to battery that persists for more than 5 seconds when the ignition is in the ON or START position.

B144C 06

The steering column lock control module detects a short to ground or an open circuit that persists for more than 3 seconds when the ignition is in the OFF or ACC position.

  1. A message is shown on the display.
  1. The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
  2. A history DTC will clear once 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

Check that DTC B144 is not set.

Relay Test

  1. Ignition OFF, remove the KR73 RUN/CRANK relay.
  2. Measure the resistance between pins 2 (85) and 1 (86). The value should be between 60 and 200 ohms. ==> If the resistance is outside the range, replace the KR73 RUN/CRANK relay.
  3. The resistance should be infinite between the following pins: 3 (30) and 1 (86) 3 (30) and 5 (87) 3 (30) and 2 (85) 2 (85) and 5 (87)
  4. Measure the resistance between pins 3 (30) and 4 (87A). The value should be less than 2 ohms. ==> If the resistance is higher than 2 ohms, replace the KR73 RUN/CRANK relay.
  5. Bridge with a 3 A fuse between pin 2 (85) and B+. Bridge between pin 1 (86) and ground. Measure the resistance between pins 3 (30) and 4 (87A). The value should be less than 2 ohms. ==> If the resistance is higher than 2 ohms, replace the KR73 RUN/CRANK relay.

DTC B2515 5A

Steering column lock motor, feedback circuit not reasonable

  1. The ignition is in OFF, ACCESSORY or RUN position.
  2. Battery voltage is between 9 and 16 V.

The BCM registers an unreasonable feedback signal from the steering column lock control module.

  1. DTC B2515 has been stored in memory.
  2. The driver information centre (IPC) displays the warning message from the steering column lock.
  1. The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
  2. The BCM registers a reasonable feedback signal from the steering column lock control module.

Steering column lock motor, locking circuit short circuited to ground.

The steering column lock control module detects a short to battery on the input that is connected to the keyless entry control module.

The steering column lock control module detects a short to ground or an open circuit on the input that is connected to the keyless entry control module.

  1. A message is shown on the display.
  2. DTC B2897 has been stored in the memory of the steering column lock control module.
  1. The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
  2. A history DTC will clear once 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Check that DTC B144B is not set.

DTC B305A 00

Steering Column Lock, No Communication

  1. The diagnosis runs with the ignition in positions OFF, ACCESSORIES and ON
  2. Battery voltage is between 9 and 16 V.

The body control module BCM has no communication with the steering column lock control module

  1. DTC B305A is set.
  2. The driver information centre (IPC) displays the warning message from the steering column lock.

The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.

DTC B2910 00

Steering Column Lock, Incorrect Code

  1. The diagnosis runs with the ignition ON
  2. Battery voltage between 9 and 16 V.

The steering column lock control module has received an incorrect code or no code concurrent with a command to unlock the steering column unit.

  1. A message is shown on the display.
  2. DTC B2910 00 is set
  3. The control module does not allow the starter motor to turn.
  1. The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
  2. The steering column lock control module has received a correct code together with a command to unlock the steering column unit

The DTC may be set if the BCM has been replaced and the steering column lock control module has not been programmed.

Visual/Physical Inspection

  1. Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the steering wheel and column.
  2. Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
